BREAKING: Ebonyi PDP Elects New Executive

The longstanding crisis within the leadership of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has been resolved following the election of a new executive at a congress held over the weekend. This congress marked a significant step toward unity and rebuilding within the party.

The event, held at the state secretariat of the PDP, saw notable attendance from prominent figures, including the former Governor of Ebonyi State, Dr. Sam Egwu, and the South East Zonal Vice Chairman of the party, Chief Ali Odefa. Also in attendance were other key stakeholders who came together in a show of support and solidarity for the party's restructuring efforts.

In his address following the congress, the newly elected Chairman of the Ebonyi PDP, Mr. Nwele Peter, outlined his vision for the party’s future. He expressed optimism about reuniting former members and reinforcing the party’s strength as they look forward to reclaiming governance in 2027. "The state has always been a PDP state," Mr. Peter emphasized, "and we are committed to bringing back those who left the party to create a formidable force."

The congress was conducted with oversight from a seven-member committee appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP. Officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies were also present, ensuring a peaceful and transparent process.

Mr. Peter further emphasized the party’s commitment to reconciliation and unity, stating, "Ebonyi State is PDP by tradition and will continue to be. While some may speak of a crisis, there is none. We are extending an olive branch to all former members, fostering a spirit of forgiveness and unity to reclaim our lost mandate."

The Chairman of the Congress Committee, Ugonna Ogbonna, lauded the peaceful conduct and transparency of the exercise. He noted that the harmonious atmosphere and cooperative spirit shown by members reflected the party’s readiness to move forward with renewed vigor.

Chief Ali Odefa, the South East National Vice Chairman, also spoke on the enduring loyalty and support for PDP within Ebonyi State and nationwide. He reiterated the party’s commitment to winning back power in the 2027 elections, characterizing the ruling APC as the "opposition party" and affirming that the PDP would come together to offer a strong alternative.

Chief Odefa dismissed any notion of internal discord within the PDP, affirming, "There has been total reconciliation. The NWC is united; we stand as one." He urged the newly elected executives to focus on rebuilding, reconciliation, and a cohesive strategy to restore the party’s position in the state.

The newly elected Ebonyi PDP executive is set to embark on a comprehensive reconciliation process, aiming to reunify the party and strengthen its foundation as it prepares for the 2027 elections.
