Nkanu West Mayor, Hon. John Ogbodo Hosts Strategic Security Meeting with Neighbourhood Watch for Proactive Crime Control

 


In a proactive move to enhance security in Nkanu West Local Government Area, the Chairman, Hon. John Chuma Ogbodo, held a crucial meeting with the Neighbourhood Watch security operatives of the council. The well-attended meeting, which took place on Tuesday, 15th of October 2024, at the Nkanu West Local Government Secretariat, Agbani, was aimed at strategizing ways to combat crime and ensure the safety of residents in the council.


During the meeting, Hon. Ogbodo emphasized the importance of being proactive in addressing security challenges. He commended the Neighbourhood Watch for their dedication, stating, “While others are asleep, they are awake, ensuring that the lives and properties of our people are secure.” His speech highlighted the critical role played by security personnel in maintaining peace and order, and he promised to support them fully by providing the necessary tools and improving their welfare to enhance their operations.


In line with Governor Peter Mbah’s security agenda for Enugu State, Hon. Ogbodo assured the Neighbourhood Watch operatives that his administration would key into the governor’s transformative mission to eradicate insecurity. “Here in Nkanu West, we are fully aligned with the governor’s vision. We will replicate his commitment to security in our council, ensuring that our communities are safe for all,” he said.


The Chairman also charged the security operatives to intensify their efforts by mounting roadblocks in strategic locations across the council, a move that he believes will deter criminal activities. He stressed that maintaining security is a collective responsibility and urged all stakeholders in Nkanu West to work closely with the security forces.


The meeting was marked by frank discussions on the challenges faced by the security operatives. Mr. Chibuzor Ukwu, the Nkanu West Coordinator of the Neighbourhood Watch, outlined some of the problems delaying the effectiveness of their operations. He hailed the Chairman for convening the meeting, noting that it was a proactive approach to solving security issues before they escalate. “This is the type of leadership we need—taking preventive steps rather than waiting for problems to arise,” Ukwu remarked.


Mr. Ozoemena Nwodobo-Agbo, the Chief Security Officer of Nkanu West Local Government Council, also commended Hon. Ogbodo for his unwavering support to the security team. He expressed confidence that the Chairman’s commitment to improving their operations would significantly boost their effectiveness in curbing crime in the council.


Hon. Ogbodo’s administration is poised to working tirelessly to address the security needs of the local government. His strong partnership with Governor Peter Mbah’s administration will been instrumental in ensuring that the local government aligns with the governor’s vision of a safer, more secure Enugu State.
