The Araceli Aid Foundation Academy Enugu held its grand opening on Friday, October 18th, at Obeagu Uno, Enugu State, in a ceremony that drew prominent figures from across the nation. The event was graced and officially commissioned by Peter Obi, former Nigerian presidential candidate, alongside distinguished dignitaries from the academic sector.

In his address during the ceremony, Peter Obi lauded the efforts of Anne Rossmeier, the American philanthropist behind the Araceli Aid Foundation, for her generous contributions to improving the lives of indigent children through education.

Full text of Peter Obi's Statement:

“This Official Opening of Araceli Aid Foundation Academy Enugu marks an important milestone in the pursuit of access to quality education for the less privileged children in our society. This institution is not just another school but a symbol of hope and opportunity for those who need it the most. The Araceli Aid Foundation Academy Enugu, born out of the Araceli Aid Foundation, stands as a testament to the impact of private investment in education, particularly for the benefit of the underprivileged.

“Following my firm belief that quality education is not only the right of every child but is also their currency for future opportunities, I was glad to honor their invitation. I was even more gladdened to see such private individuals making visible investments in education for the progress of society.

“I also promised to partner with the organization on this noble mission by helping to sponsor some indigent students in the school. I thank the family of Anne Rossmeier for this great contribution to our society.

"I learned that about 50% of the children in the school enjoy full and partial scholarships. This is a commendable step in our struggle to give our children across the nation access to a better life through education.”

The academy, which offers courses ranging from fashion design to digital skills acquisition, aims to equip students with practical knowledge and vocational skills that will foster employability and creativity in their future careers. The school also ensures a well-rounded education by promoting proficiency in three major Nigerian languages, providing students with both technical and cultural tools for success.

Peter Obi further emphasized the significance of such investments in shaping the future of the country, noting that these educational initiatives are crucial for national development.
