FEAR: 1,141 Face Death as Strange Disease Hits Nigeria, 30 Reported Dead Already

A cholera outbreak in Nigeria has resulted in 30 confirmed deaths, with 1,141 suspected cases reported across multiple states. The National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) has raised an alarm over the rapid spread of the disease, affecting Abia, Imo, Cross River, Bauchi, Delta, Katsina, Zamfara, Bayelsa, Nasarawa, and Lagos States.

Dr. Agnes Asagbra, Director-General of NBMA, stressed the need for Nigerians to remain vigilant and prioritize hygiene practices, particularly as the Salah celebrations approach. Asagbra noted that while the Federal Government is taking steps to contain the outbreak, individual efforts to maintain hygiene will play a critical role in curbing the spread.

NBMA has issued guidelines to help Nigerians protect themselves, including avoiding raw foods like fruits and vegetables, and ensuring thorough handwashing after using the toilet. The agency emphasized that cholera is a highly contagious disease and can spread rapidly without proper preventive measures.

This alarming outbreak comes at a time when Nigerians are already facing severe economic challenges, which have further strained healthcare and public safety systems.
