It has come to our attention that a fabricated report is being circulated on social media in a calculated attempt to tarnish the image of Comrade Clinton Ogbonna, the leader of the Nsukka Youth General Assembly (NYGA), and the respected sociocultural organization itself. We wish to categorically clarify that the allegations made in the false report are baseless and are clearly the handiwork of political mischief-makers who are interested in 2027 elections in the state. Thereby aiming to cause division ahead among the youths on divide and rule political strategy.
Contrary to the misleading claims, Clinton Ogbonna did not seek political support from Senator Okey Ezea or any Labour Party leaders. The only occasion Ogbonna met with Senator Ezea was at the burial ceremony of the mother of Herbert Nnadi (Igede of Africa), who also served as the secretary of Governor Peter Mbah’s campaign group in the diaspora. A photograph of Ogbonna exchanging pleasantries with Senator Ezea in front of the church at Ekwegbe during the burial was misrepresented by those spreading falsehoods.
These false narratives are being peddled by imposters with ulterior motives, working in the interest of certain politicians from Nsukka, who are positioning themselves for the 2027 elections. However, the public is urged to disregard such malicious claims as nothing more than political machinations designed to distract and deceive.
Clinton Ogbonna is well-known for his unwavering belief in and support for Governor Peter Mbah. In fact, Ogbonna was instrumental in securing substantial votes for Peter Mbah during the 2023 gubernatorial elections. Notably, Ogbonna's polling unit in Igbo-Etiti delivered one of the highest votes for Peter Mbah in the entire local government area, with 94 votes; an unparalleled figure, aside from Ezenta Ezeani ward.
Furthermore, Clinton Ogbonna’s loyalty to the People's Democratic Party (PDP) during the elections is well-documented. He served as a PDP agent, ensuring that the party secured significant victories across the zone. His role in delivering such decisive support for Governor Mbah’s victory is a matter of public record.
It is also crucial to note that the Nsukka Youth General Assembly (NYGA) is primarily a sociocultural organization, with its foundation rooted in promoting the welfare and development of youth in the Nsukka zone. The NYGA operates as an apolitical entity, embracing individuals from all political backgrounds without prejudice. Attempts to politicize the organization or associate it with any political party are both misleading and dishonest.
We, therefore, call on well-meaning individuals to stand against this campaign of falsehood and support the true cause of unity and progress within the Nsukka Youth General Assembly. Let us not allow political games to undermine the work and achievements of Amb Clinton Ogbonna and the NYGA.
This report is aimed at setting the record straight and reinforcing the commitment of the Nsukka Youth General Assembly to its sociocultural mission. The NYGA remains focused on youth development and will not be swayed by political distractions.
