BREAKING: Nkanu Youths Demand Justice and Probe into Fatal Shooting of Igbo Cultural Icon Okezie Chikezie Mba (Igboja) by Police Officer

The recent tragic death of Igboja, a native of Ogui Nike in Enugu North, serves as yet another painful reminder of the persistent issue of police brutality. Okezie, known for his vibrant personality and commitment to promoting Igbo culture through the revered Ogene music, was a cherished figure among his community. His untimely death at the hands of a "trigger-happy" police officer has sent shockwaves through Enugu and sparked both grief and outrage.

Igboja’s contributions went beyond his personal endeavours; he was a steadfast promoter of Igbo heritage, an individual who celebrated tradition and inspired youth to honour their cultural roots. His loss is not merely the absence of one individual but a significant setback for the community's cultural and social fabric.

On behalf of the Nkanu youth, we firmly condemn this senseless act, which reflects a broader issue of unprofessionalism among certain police officers. It’s reported that the officer responsible for Igboja's death has been apprehended and is now in custody. However, our collective pain and demand for justice remain unfulfilled until we see accountability for this inexcusable violence.

In this difficult time, we call for calm amidst the palpable anger throughout Enugu State. While we grieve, it's essential that we allow the investigative process to proceed without interruption. However, we urge the authorities to expedite their investigation and ensure that justice for Igboja is neither delayed nor denied.

To Igboja’s family and the people of Ogui Nike, we extend our deepest sympathies. We honour Igboja's legacy by seeking accountability, hoping that his tragic end becomes a turning point in addressing the misconduct within our law enforcement system. May his life inspire us all to stand united against injustice and to call for a system that truly protects and respects every citizen.
