BREAKING: Governor Approves N85,000 Minimum Wage for State Workers

In response to the current hardship in the country, The  Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced the approval of a new minimum wage of N85,000 for civil servants in the state. This comes shortly after the federal government’s approval of N70,000 as the national minimum wage.

Governor Sanwo-Olu made the announcement during a televised interview on Channels TV, where he emphasized the state’s commitment to improving the welfare of its workers in line with the increasing cost of living in Nigeria.

The new wage is part of the government’s broader efforts to support civil servants and boost their morale amid economic challenges. Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that this adjustment reflects Lagos State’s dedication to ensuring that workers' earnings keep pace with inflation and other economic realities.

Details on the implementation process are expected to follow soon. This move has been widely praised by civil servants and labor unions, who have long advocated for wage increases in light of rising living costs across the country.

The Governor’s decision is seen as a significant step in improving the standard of living for public sector workers in Lagos, reinforcing the state’s leading role in progressive labor policies.
