State Police Command has apprehended a pregnant woman, Khadija Aliyu, for allegedly kidnapping a newborn baby girl during a naming ceremony in Keffi. The suspect, who had been pretending to be pregnant, sneaked into the house where the ceremony was held and abducted the seven-day-old baby.
According to a statement released on Sunday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, the suspect was caught after fleeing the event. She reportedly wrapped the infant in a veil, concealing the child behind her back as she escaped. However, her suspicious actions did not go unnoticed, leading to her eventual arrest by police officers attached to the Keffi Division.
Nansel stated: “On 28/9/2024 at about 1830hrs, Police operatives arrested one Khadija Aliyu ‘F’ for stealing a seven-day-old baby girl during a naming ceremony. The suspect sneaked into the house, carried the sleeping baby, and attempted to leave before being apprehended.”
In a related development, the police also arrested an ex-convict, Hussaini Mohammed, for stealing three motorcycles. Mohammed, who had been released from a correctional facility just months ago, was arrested by officers from the Angwan Lambu Division. Three stolen motorcycles were recovered from him.
The Nasarawa State Commissioner of Police, Umar Shehu Nadada, has urged individuals who have lost motorcycles in recent months to visit the Angwan Lambu Division with proof of ownership to reclaim their property.
This incident highlights the vigilance of the Nasarawa State Police Force in ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining law and order across the region.
