On Sunday night, security operatives of the Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Police Force successfully neutralized a gunman suspected to be a secessionist fighter. During the operation, which occurred in Aguata Local Government Area, the police recovered several arms and other criminal items.

The police force, led by a patrol team, engaged the armed men in a fierce gun battle after receiving intelligence about a suspicious black Prado Jeep along the Igbo Ukwu/Ezinifite Uga axis. According to a statement from the State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the confrontation occurred at 11:30 p.m., resulting in the elimination of one gunman, while others managed to flee the scene.

Recovered from the operation were two AK-47 rifles, a pump-action gun, two magazines filled with live ammunition, 15 live cartridges, and a Prado Jeep with two different plate numbers. The police also seized two body armoured vests, three face caps, a black handbag, and an assortment of charms used by the criminals.

SP Ikenga emphasized that the ongoing clearance operations across the state are aimed at ridding Anambra of criminal elements. He reassured residents of the police's commitment to ensuring their safety and urged citizens to cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting any suspicious activities.

This decisive action is part of the broader efforts of the Nigeria Police Force to restore peace and order, particularly in regions plagued by secessionist violence.
