The traders, residents and motorists of Abakpa Nike in Enugu East Local Government Area have commended the officials of the Enugu State Ministry of Transport for fulfilling their promise to decongest Abakpa Nike road where traders and hawkers had almost taken the entire portion of the road from the first bus stop to the last bus stop of the area.
Recall that the Hon. Commissioner for Transport, Dr Obi Ozor, has recently, while briefing Newsmen in Enugu, vowed to restore sanity in the urban roads especially market areas where roadside traders and hawkers cause traffic gridlock.
Addressing the people in the area after the operation, the Commander of Enugu State Traffic Management Authority (ESTMA), Mr Kenneth Ugwu, assured them that the decongestion operation would be a continuous one, pleading with them to comply with the traffic rules for safer movement of vehicles along the road.
In their response, drivers and some residents who joined the officials of the Ministry in the operation promised to report with immediate effect to the Ministry the defaulters for prompt action against them.
The Ministry however ceased the opportunity to advise the public on the dangers associated with roadside hawking, enjoined traders to desist from such act to save lives and properties of Ndi Enugu.
