Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah reaffirmed his administration's unwavering commitment to realizing the dreams of the state's founding fathers, a statement he made in a historic celebration marking the 33rd anniversary of Enugu State's creation.
The event held at Michael Okpara Square Enugu on Tuesday, 27th of August, tagged "Sustaining the lofty dreams of our founding fathers " was rated one of the best organised in the history of the annual event. It brought together a host of notable individuals and dignitaries who came to celebrate the state’s rich history and its promising future.
Represented by his deputy, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, the Executive Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, emphasized the resolve to restore Enugu’s lost glory as the capital of the East Central State and the Eastern Region, positioning it once again as a beacon of progress and development.
Governor Mbah reiterated his administration's determination to create a state where quality education, a robust economy, and efficient public service will thrive for the benefit of all citizens, regardless of their backgrounds, social standing, or political affiliations. He commended the Enugu State Development Association (ESDA) for their tireless efforts and sacrifices towards the actualization of Enugu State, and vowed to transform the state into a premier destination for investment, business, tourism, and living.
The President General of ESDA, Igwe Abel Nwobodo, also addressed the gathering, taking a moment to reflect on the journey that led to the creation of Enugu State. He passionately spoke about the sacrifices made by the state’s heroes, both living and deceased, asserting that their efforts will not be in vain. Igwe Nwobodo urged the youth to shun vices and negative behaviors, encouraging them to embrace the "Wawa spirit" of hard work, doggedness, perseverance, determination, and love for one another—a spirit that has defined the people of Enugu State for generations.
Adding his voice to the celebrations, the Chairman of the Planning Committee and Special Adviser to the Governor on Legislative Matters, Chief Paul Nnajiofor, delved into the theme of the event. He assured attendees that the 2025 edition of the anniversary celebration would be even more remarkable, promising new initiatives and an even grander celebration to continue honoring the state’s heritage and future.
The event was not only a celebration of Enugu State’s past and future but also a vibrant showcase of the state’s rich cultural heritage. Varieties of cultural displays highlighted the event, reflecting the diverse and vibrant traditions of the people of Enugu. In a symbolic gesture of commitment to education, the President General of ESDA presented the governor with over 3,000 pieces of 60-leaf exercise books, marking a significant contribution to the state’s educational development.
Among the many dignitaries in attendance were the Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, Igwe Samuel Asadu, and other esteemed members of the traditional council, who lent their support and blessings to the occasion. Their presence underscored the unity and solidarity among the leaders and people of Enugu State as they continue to work together towards a prosperous future.
The 2024 Anniversary Celebration of the creation of Enugu State will be remembered not only for its impeccable organization but also for the powerful reaffirmation of the state’s dedication to the ideals and dreams of its founding fathers.
