High-Powered Delegation of PDP Ebonyi State Visits Nigeria Police Force

The newly appointed Caretaker Committee of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State, led by Chairman Barrister Steve Oruruo, paid a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Police Force, Ebonyi State Command. The delegation was warmly received by the Commissioner of Police, Augustina Ogbodo.

During the meeting, Barrister Oruruo expressed his appreciation for the Nigerian Police Force, emphasizing their vital role in maintaining democracy and public safety. He stated, “We understand the magnitude of risk, sacrificial efforts, and the overall collective benefits rising from the doorsteps of the Nigerian police force. Your exploits on the sands of time resonate with the ideals of our sustained democracy. The leadership recruitment ideology and processes cannot be genuinely and creditably completed without the well-established ingenuity, dexterity, and the manifest competences of the Nigerian police.”

Oruruo underscored the importance of having a robust opposition in Ebonyi State to ensure good governance and accountability. He declared, “I am convinced that we are partners in the quest for a better country. Therefore, I have no doubt in my mind that we need a strong opposition in Ebonyi that can win elections and also pile pressure on the ruling party to perform better. So, I reiterate the truism that Ebonyi needs a strong opposition to thrive.”

He also called on the police command to provide an enabling environment and necessary security protection in line with constitutional dictates, the Police Act, and the rule of law. “We consequently demand that this command within this time provide us an enabling environment and necessary security protection in line with the dictates of the constitution, the police Act, and the rule of law,” he stated.

Oruruo concluded by promising to support the police command in making their job easier.

Responding to the committee, Commissioner of Police Augustina Ogbodo assured the delegation of fair and decisive actions in handling official matters, free from any form of sentiment or bias. She commended the men and women of her command for their resilience, courage, and the outstanding performances that have contributed to the relatively peaceful atmosphere in the state. CP Ogbodo affirmed, “There are no political interferences obstructing justice in my command.”

Recall that the Committee visited other key security heads in the state capital, Abakaliki on Wednesday, 3rd July 2024; the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and the State Security Service (SSS), and were warmly received by Dr. Willie Etim and G. Oluda, the Commandant of NSCDC, and Director of SSS respectively.

The meeting marked a significant step in fostering collaboration between the PDP's new leadership in Ebonyi State and the Nigerian Police Force, aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for political activities.
