UNVEILING THE TRUTH: Did Ugwuanyi Prioritize Health in Nsukka Zone

It is laughable that the faceless writer of a fake report under the guise of Elechi H. Udeze claimed that former Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi failed to provide healthcare facilities in Nsukka Zone during his tenure.

Whereas, during his time as governor, Ugwuanyi prioritized healthcare infrastructure in Nsukka Zone. He established the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) in Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, and initiated the construction of the SUMAS Teaching Hospital. This teaching hospital, a monumental project undertaken by Ugwuanyi's administration, is now over 90% completed.

The present administration, under Governor Peter Mbah, has endorsed and signed the bill establishing the SUMAS Teaching Hospital into law, indicating its significance and continuity in providing comprehensive healthcare services to the people of Nsukka, Ndi Enugu, and beyond.

Ugwuanyi's administration built and equipped 10 units of Type 3 Healthcare Centers in Enugu State, with 5 of them located in Nsukka Zone. Specifically, two Type-3 Healthcare Centers were established in Uzo-Uwani LGA.

Ugwuanyi also constructed and equipped a substantial Amenity Ward Facility at the upgraded Ogrute General Hospital in Enugu Ezike, Igbo-Eze North LGA. This facility provides specialized medical services to the people of Nsukka, showcasing Ugwuanyi's commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in the zone.

Contrary to the report's claim that the "Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme" is a sham, this initiative was operational during Ugwuanyi's tenure as governor and continues to serve the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone. Initially conducted in various healthcare centers across the zone, the programme centralized its services at the Julius Ajogwu Memorial Hospital in Nsukka.

This initiative has significantly alleviated the health and financial burdens of the people in the zone. The programme has seen a massive increase in beneficiaries, indicating its effectiveness and impact on the community.

Despite attempts to tarnish his image with baseless accusations, the people of Nsukka Zone continue to celebrate and appreciate former Governor Ugwuanyi for his dedication to their well-being and the significant improvements he initiated in the healthcare sector.

The popular GburusCare Initiative that provided free healthcare services to the poor elderly population of Enugu State majorly in the rural areas that spanned throughout 2021 to 2022 was another pronounced expression of Ugwuanyi's love for his people which Enugu North Senatorial Zone was one of the major beneficiaries. In fact, the programme was launched in Ede-ani in Nsukka LGA, it covers various parts of the zone, including Igboeze South and Udenu LGA before spreading it to other zones in the state.

The achievements of his administration, including the establishment of SUMAS and the Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme, stand as a testament to his commitment to the health and welfare of the people of Nsukka Zone and Enugu State as a whole.

The Gburugburu Free Surgery Programme has left a significant trail of documented evidence, including detailed profiles of beneficiaries. Among the beneficiaries are individuals whose names, phone numbers, addresses, and health conditions are clearly stated in the programme's reports, which are still available online for confirmation.

1.
