Nkanu East Showcases Development Strides of Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh's Leadership


Under the leadership of Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, the Chairman of Nkanu East Council Area has witnessed a transformative surge in infrastructure and community-driven initiatives. From the meticulous renovation of administrative blocks to the construction of modern conference halls and crucial bridges, the landscape of Nkanu East reflects a tapestry of progress. 

Completed projects such as the upgrading of roads, electrification efforts, and agricultural ventures underscore a commitment to holistic development. As ongoing endeavors like the Iyiakpu Bridge and rural electrification initiatives gain admiration, Edeh's vision for a prosperous Nkanu East continues to unfold, setting a precedent for effective governance and grassroots empowerment.

THE GIANT STRIDES BY HON. SYDNEY OKECHUKWU EDEH, CHAIRMAN, NKANU EAST COUNCIL AREA.

Highlight of completed and ongoing projects in Nkanu East.

1.Renovation of administrative block which include the replacement of PVC ceiling with POP.

2.An ultra-modern 1,500 capacity conference hall which is now at roofing level.


3.Roofing and renovation of the Council warehouse.


4.Grading and lateriting of the

 Ubahu-Amankanu 10 kilometre road.


5.Grading of feeder roads in many communities in Nkanu East.


6.Construction of 7.5m length by 2m weight of culvert at 3 different locations in Ugbawka 


7. Construction of 4 unit of 2 bedroom bungalow for 4 widows in Mburumbu, Ugbawka, Akpawfu and OWO 


ON-GOING PROJECTS


1.The IYIAKPU BRIDGE- connecting Akpa-Obeagu-Ihuona-Obodo Uvuru and Ishielu Villages all in Amafor Ugbawka Community.


2. 4 kilometre Obeagu Akpa-Ihuona road. The dual drainage system already completed, while excavation of sandy soil is ongoing to pave way for lateriting and asphalting thereafter.


3. OJOLOWO BRIDGE: This all important bridge connecting Nara-Nkerefi and Mburumbu Towns is now receiving attention. Equipment, Manpower and Materials are being mobilized to the site. Bulldozing of access way to the bridge is on-going.


RURAL ELECTRIFICATION

1.Installation of solar light in and around Amafor-Ugbawka (completed).


2.Procurement of new transformers and electrification of Akpa-Obeagu, Ihuona, Obodo-Uvuru among other Villages completed.


3.The long abandoned and vandalized Ugbawka-Nara-Nkerefi electrification project was also revisited by the council chairman. New poles, high tension wire and other electrical materials were procured. The electrification project has reached Ugbawka Town, and will get to Nara and Nkerefi in few

 weeks time.


AGRICULTURAL PROJECT


1.To compliment the agricultural initiative of the State Government, the Council cultivated about 50 hectare cassava farm near the Local Government.


2.The dreaded Agu-Udene forest measuring over 100 hectares have been cleared and converted to farm clusters.


3.Farm seedlings, special specie of cassava stems are being distributed to farmers in the Council.


EMPOWERMENT AND STAFF WELFARE


1.The staff of the Local Government Council receives their salary as at and when due. In fact, leave allowance was paid up to date to all category of staff.


2.All Councilors and Supervisors have been paid their wardrobe allowance.


3.As it stand today, over 500 persons including adhoc staff, security personnel and the vulnerable are on the payroll of the council.


SECURITY

1..Clearing of 200, 000 hectares of dreaded Agudene forest Akpawfu for the agricultural purposes.


2.Fencing of the Amagunze Police Station, including the staff quarters which was earlier built by the council chairman.


3. Construction of permanent military base and 3 bedroom bungalow at Aguudele Akpawfu for Nigeria army, to help curb insecurity within Akpawfu and environ.
