The Chairman of the Ogbete Main Market Traders’ Association (OMMATA), Mr. Stephen Aniagu, has been shot dead by suspected assassins. The tragic incident occurred on the evening of Saturday, 14th September 2024, at Moses Ogbodo Junction, near Topland Market in the Amaechi area of Enugu South Local Government.
According to eyewitness reports, Mr. Aniagu was likely on his way home after the market closed when he was ambushed by the assailants around 7 PM. A nearby source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, recounted the terrifying moment:
“We heard gunshots and ran for safety. When we came out of hiding minutes later, we found his lifeless body on the ground, and his car was gone. His body was riddled with bullets; he was shot multiple times.”
The attackers reportedly fled the scene with Mr. Aniagu’s vehicle, leaving behind a gruesome scene that has sent shockwaves through the community. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities have yet to release an official statement regarding the motive behind the assassination or the identity of the assailants.
