The Federal Capital Territory Police anti-kidnapping squad, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, successfully liberated five out of the six Al-Kadriyar sisters abducted from the Bwari area of Abuja earlier this month.
The courageous mission took place in the Kajuru forest of Kaduna State at approximately 11:30 pm on Saturday, January 20, 2024. Tragically, the kidnappers had already claimed the lives of 13-year-old Folashade Ariyo and Najeeba Al-Kadriyar, a 400-level student at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Four members of lawyer Oladosu Ariyo's family, who were also kidnapped in the Dutse area of the capital, were among those rescued during the operation.
FCT police spokesperson, SP Josephine Adeh, confirmed the success of the operation, commending the dedication and collaboration of the security forces involved.
Expressing gratitude to Inspector-General of Police IGP Olukayode Egbetokun for deploying the Special Intervention Squad, Commissioner of Police for FCT Command, CP Haruna Garba, emphasized the command’s commitment to sustaining robust security deployment in the region.
CP Haruna Garba urged FCT residents to promptly report suspicious activities through emergency lines, including 08032003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883, along with PCB: 09022222352.
It's a poignant reminder that the sisters, alongside their father and fellow residents, were victims of a heinous crime. The father was released immediately, but the kidnappers demanded a ransom of approximately N60 million for the release of the children.
Tragically, Nabeeha, one of the sisters, fell victim to the abductors' brutality due to the non-prompt payment of the ransom. The community and authorities are now grappling with the aftermath of this harrowing incident, emphasizing the ongoing challenges posed by kidnapping in the region.
