Daughter of Late Nigerian Military Dictator, Gumsu Sani Abacha, Announces Divorce from Yobe State Governor

Gumsu Sani Abacha, daughter of the late Nigerian military dictator, has announced her divorce from Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni. The news surfaced on social media when Gumsu responded to a commenter referring to her as "First Lady" on her handle @G_sparking.

Gumsu shared a cryptic picture with the caption "Emancipation… Liberation" on Sunday, sparking a wave of comments, reposts, and likes. According to insider sources reported by Daily Nigerian, the marriage had ended "some months ago," shedding light on a development kept away from public attention.

Governor Mai Mala Buni married Gumsu Abacha on April 14, 2021, in a ceremony attended by prominent figures, including the then Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Customs Service, Hameed Ali, and Kano-based Islamic cleric Aminu Daurawa. The union involved the payment of 24 gold coins as dowry and took place at the Abuja residence of Gumsu's elder brother, Mohammed Abacha.

This marks Gumsu's second divorce, having previously been married to Cameroonian multi-billionaire Bayero Mohamadou. The twenty-year marriage came to an end in 2020. The recent announcement adds another layer of intrigue to the life of the Abacha family, known for its historical significance in Nigeria's political landscape.
