In a landmark event,the Executive Governor of Enugu state Dr Peter Ndubisi Mbah has commissioned the Enugu Fashion skills acquisition centre.This is pursuant to his administration’s commitment to eradicating poverty through skill acquisition,enhanced employability and self sufficiency.
The governor who was represented by the secretary to the state government Prof Chidiebere Onyia emphasised the potency of skill acquisition as a tool for survival when things are tough and a means of wealth creation under normal circumstances. He advised the first batch of trainees on the need to take the program seriously and make the most of it for their own sake and for the growth of Enugu economy.
The host commissioner, Pharm Chika Ugwuoke expressed joy over the governor’s support towards establishment of the centre. He reminded the audience that the far reaching impact of this centre goes beyond sewing and fabrics to generational upliftment and communal prosperity of ndi Enugu.He described it as a beacon of hope for the actualisation of the vision of His Excellency Dr Peter Mbah.
Others in attendance were the commissioners for trade and investment Mrs Ada Chukwu, youths and sports development Barr Lloyd Ekweremadu, water resources Dr Felix Nnamani, special duties Hon Sunday Emeka Ajogwu, the head of service, members of Enugu state house of assembly, permanent secretary ministry of health, state coordinators of SMEDAN, NDE, IFAD and many other dignitaries.
The skill acquisition centre which has a training hall and three offices is fully equipped with sophisticated sewing machines,embroidery machines and other training materials.
The commissioner for Labour and employment Hon Chika Ugwuoke urged MDAs, individuals and the public to patronise the centre for high quality products at affordable prices.This is to ensure the sustainability of the centre for generations to come to benefit from.
The Chief trainer, Mr Oscar alongside two co trainers will oversee the training sessions under the supervision of Mr Okey Odo who is the head of productivity.
The trainer outlined a well structured curriculum for the participants and tutored them on the massive opportunity the program would avail them in their lives if they pay attention and learn the skills properly.
Speaking to the participants, the commissioner for youth and sports development counselled the youth to put in efforts towards carving a niche for themselves in order to promote their chances of success in a competitive market. Another resource person Barr Blessing Ogbonna advised the young girls in the batch to see this as an opportunity for self development in readiness for opportunities in the future.
