Police and DSS Operatives Neutralize Armed Robbery Trio in Enugu Gunfight Targeting POS Operators

In a joint operation on Sunday, the Enugu State Police and Department of State Service (DSS) successfully neutralized three male armed robbery suspects in a fierce gun battle at Second Avenue, Independence Layout, Enugu.

According to a statement by Mr. Daniel Ndukwe, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Enugu State Command, the operation yielded significant results. Two locally-made revolver pistols, six live rounds of .9mm calibre ammunition, and an operational tricycle with Enugu registration number MGL 100 WL were among the items recovered.

The gang's criminal activities were not limited to weaponry, as the security forces seized a considerable amount of cash totaling approximately five hundred thousand Naira (N500,000.00). Additionally, the recovery included rolls of POS transaction printing papers, assorted mobile phones, wallets, bags, and various other items believed to have been stolen from POS operators and their customers during previous attacks across Enugu metropolis.

The brazen daylight attack occurred at around 1 p.m. when the hoodlums targeted POS operators at different locations. Subsequently, the security forces initiated surveillance on the criminals, leading to a confrontation where the armed suspects opened fire upon detection. In response, the operatives exercised superior firepower, eliminating the three perpetrators and securing the recovered exhibits.

Victims of the robberies have positively identified both the hoodlums and a number of the seized items as belonging to them. Authorities are conducting a thorough and discreet investigation to uncover any remaining members of the criminal gang and bring them to justice.

The collaborative effort between the Police and DSS showcases the commitment to maintaining public safety and curbing criminal activities in Enugu State.
