Enugu State Ministry of Labour and Employment Proposes Employability Summit for ESUT Undergraduates

Enugu State Ministry of Labour and Employment and Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have proposed to host a Career and Employability Summit for penultimate-year students, as Commissioner for Labour and Employment, Pharm Chika Ugwuoke, met with ESUT's Management Team today in Agbani. Ugwuoke emphasized the crucial role of ESUT and other higher institutions in shaping the future labor force for Enugu and beyond.

Hon. Pharm Ugwuoke stated, "ESUT and other Higher Institutions are our hope for a productive workforce to compliment Governor Mbah’s developmental strides." The meeting aimed to align academic activities to equip ESUT students with 21st-century skills, particularly in technology and the digital economy.

"Governor Mbah’s plans include skills acquisition, career guidance, internships, research and development support, and promotion of employability skills" Ugwuoke stressed the importance of preparing undergraduates for the transition to the professional world, acknowledging the challenges they face.


The Vice Chancellor Prof Aloysius-Michaels Okolie expressed delight over the collaborative approach and pledged 100% support to the government's initiatives. He highlighted the need for attention to be paid to the welfare of the existing labor force to ensure the transmission of knowledge and skills to the younger generation. The VC proposed a structured action plan for effective collaboration and outlined the university's successful partnerships with the private sector.


The commissioner for Labour and Employment, describing Governor Peter Mbah as youth-oriented, promised increased engagement with students. The VC's message of collaboration and the importance of focusing on the welfare of the labor force will be integrated into the government's work plan. The commissioner also inspected the ongoing construction of the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences, a project revitalized by VC Prof. Okolie. role of ESUT and other higher institutions in shaping the future labor force for Enugu and beyond.
