The Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah of Enugu State has unveiled plans for the Enugu Central Terminal, a monumental infrastructure project set to reshape the transportation landscape of the region. Drawing inspiration from the success of the Lagos-Oshodi Transportation Interchange, the Enugu Central Terminal promises to elevate the state's transportation system to new heights.
Planet Projects, the renowned company behind the Oshodi Interchange, has been entrusted with the construction of this colossal project. Upon completion, the terminal will emerge as a pivotal transportation hub, seamlessly connecting both inter-state and intra-state travel. The facility will integrate with the existing rail line and boast expansive link roads, providing unparalleled connectivity.
Strategically located at the intersection of Okpara Avenue and Market Road in Enugu town, the terminal is slated to be completed within a swift 12-month timeframe. Governor Peter Mbah, in collaboration with State Commissioner for Transport Hon. Obi Ozor, has initiated extensive stakeholder consultations. These discussions aim to address the concerns of businesses within the construction zone, facilitating their temporary relocation to alternative sites during the construction phase.
Governor Mbah expressed a commitment to minimizing disruptions, ensuring affected businesses swiftly resume operations upon project completion. The Enugu Central Terminal is envisioned not only as a transportation hub but also as a vibrant center for commercial activities. The design emphasizes a harmonious coexistence with the environment, promising a clean, oxygenated atmosphere reminiscent of international cities.
As part of the broader vision, the completed Enugu Central Terminal will serve as a nucleus for a well-planned Mass Transit Station. Modular terminals at Garki, Abakpa, and Nsukka will extend the project's impact across the state.
While acknowledging the need for contemporary infrastructure in the South-East, the state government underscores the importance of balancing progress with community welfare. The proactive approach of relocating affected businesses temporarily reflects the government's commitment to a mutually beneficial outcome for all stakeholders.
As construction gears up to commence, the Enugu Central Terminal stands poised to become a symbol of Enugu State's dedication to modernization, connectivity, and sustainable development.
