In a strategic move towards bolstering the bioethanol value chain, the Enugu State Government has acquired 500 hectares of land in Uhuezeoke, Okpanku, Aninri Local Government Area. The generous donation by the community reflects the commitment to advancing agricultural development.
Earlier announcements by Governor Dr. Peter Mbah in June highlighted the state's intent to collaborate with the federal government to cultivate over 100,000 hectares of land, aiming to boost cassava production for export and youth employment.
During a recent visit to the newly acquired land, Commissioner for Agriculture and Agro-Industrialisation, Mr. Patrick Ubru, expressed enthusiasm about the progress and fertility of the land for cassava and soya bean cultivation. He outlined plans for the land, which will be developed in three phases, emphasizing the government's determination to establish bioethanol plants in the state.
Commending the local council's efforts in safeguarding the farm, Commissioner Ubru urged collaboration from nearby village workers, emphasizing the potential for widespread development and job creation in the region.
Highlighting the broader vision, Ubru revealed that Uzo-Uwani, Nkanu East, and Aninri have been selected as pilot areas for the program, with a goal to achieve zero hunger in the state by 2030. He credited Governor Mbah for the initiative, citing ongoing collaboration with the federal government to ensure project success.
The commissioner announced plans for additional bioethanol plants in Affa and Egede in Udi Local Area, with approved road construction to facilitate access to the farms. This move is expected to stimulate economic activities and contribute to both local and national growth.
Chairman Bennett Ajah expressed delight over the project, foreseeing significant development and employment opportunities for the community. He pledged the council's cooperation, assuring the state government of further land availability for agricultural purposes and a commitment to security measures.
The government delegation later visited Angel Farms in Nenwe, a rice processing mill initiated by the Enugu State government, demonstrating a comprehensive approach to supporting local communities in agriculture.
