UPDATE! Artisan Bridge Collapse: Enugu State Gov't Deploys Hitech Drones, Human Resources for Traffic Data Collection to Avert Gridlock

In response to the recent collapse of the Artisan bridge along the Port-Harcourt expressway, the Enugu State Ministry of Transportation has launched a comprehensive plan to address the resulting traffic chaos. The Ministry is deploying a combination of advanced technology and human resources to ensure the smooth flow of traffic within the state.

The collapse of the Artisan bridge had led to temporary road closures and diversions, causing significant gridlock in the area. To mitigate these traffic challenges, the Enugu State Commissioner for Transport, Hon. Obi Ozor, promptly established the Enugu Traffic Committee. This committee's primary mission is to provide a swift, efficient, and effective response to the heavy traffic congestion within the metropolis.

As part of their strategy, the Ministry of Transportation has released an advisory video urging motorists to use alternative routes during this period. These alternative routes include:

Ugwuaji Flyover: Recommended for heavy-duty vehicles approaching from the Port Harcourt axis of the Enugu - Port Harcourt expressway. This route ensures the safety of drivers and other road users as it avoids the steeper alternative.

Ekweremadu Drive: Suggested for small vehicles traveling from the Port Harcourt axis of the Enugu - Port Harcourt Expressway.

Abakpa Junction through 82 Division: Ideal for vehicles coming from the 9th Mile axis of the Enugu - Onitsha Expressway.

New Haven Junction via Upper Chime: Suitable for vehicles from the Emene-Abakiliki Road axis.

In addition to these measures, the Ministry is harnessing modern technology by deploying Hitech drones to collect traffic data. This data will help authorities make informed decisions to manage traffic effectively and prevent further congestion.

Safety precautions have also been issued to the public:

Motorists are urged to exercise caution and follow official traffic instructions while driving through these alternative routes.

Transport operators are asked to be considerate and mindful of the increased traffic from heavy-duty vehicles within the metropolis.

Citizens are encouraged to monitor and report any traffic issues to the Ministry of Transportation using the provided contact numbers: 07040244023, 08073888511, or via email at transport@enugustate.gov.ng.

The Enugu State Ministry of Transportation, under the leadership of Hon. Obi Ozor, remains committed to ensuring the safety and convenience of ndi Enugu during this challenging period. Together with the Enugu Traffic Committee and the use of advanced technology, they aim to swiftly address the traffic challenges resulting from the Artisan bridge collapse.
