Enugu State Economic Planning Team Lauds Awgu LGA Chairman's Developmental Projects

Enugu State Economic Planning Team has commended Hon. Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, the Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, for his transformative infrastructural projects while clearing him of allegations of deceiving the Enugu State Economic Planning Team with fictitious projects.

The allegations, which had caused a stir in recent days, have been thoroughly investigated by the Independent Observers for Good Governance, an unbiased body dedicated to integrity, honesty, and moral soundness.

The satisfaction expressed by the Enugu State Economic Planning Team during their visit has been placed in context, as it may not necessarily imply any form of deception. 

This revelation has underscored the importance of sustained project monitoring and collaboration for transparency and accountability in governance.

The investigation's findings have unequivocally vindicated Chairman Nwankwo on several counts. Contrary to the accusations, substantial evidence confirms the existence of ongoing projects within Awgu Local Government, including critical infrastructure developments are properly documented and subject to verification.

To provide further clarity, here is a summary of the projects visited and their progress:

H.E Barr. Peter Mbah's Lodge: 


(The lodge is reported to be 85% completed.)


Awgu LG ICT/Administrative Block:

This important project stands at 80% completion and is located at the local government council headquarters in Awgu.

Awa Iyida Bridge Mgbidi: Investigation shows that Chairman Nwankwo took up the reconstruction project of this bridge after hearing the challenges faced by the Mgbidi Community due to its collapse.


Reconstruction of Central School Nkwe:

 This project is nearly completed, reaching 95% completion. The enthusiasm of the pupils and the local community in Nkwe was noted.


5 & 6. Reconstruction of Onoli-Obuofia Road Totaling 2.440 Kilometers:

 This ongoing project was highly praised by the investigative team. 

The road in has three (3) segments; 

segment A - (from Enugu/Portharcort express road to Onoli - Obuovia bridge) totaling  *1.6* kilometers asphalted.

Segment B (Onoli - Obuovia bridge) has been Commissioned and scheduled for Construction.

Segment C (from the bridge to Old Enugu/Okigwe road) about *0.840* kilometers drainage completed, awaiting final earthworks and asphalting.

The team identified that the bridge has been awarded. According to them, the contractor who was at the site at the time of thier investigative visit said that work on the bridge can only commence after the completion of Segment C, which will enable a diversion route linking it with  Segment A, without which there will be no  access road created to link up A with C informing them that the bridge will  be closed down eventually.

Reconstruction of Onoli Primary School (Blocks 1 & 2):

Block 1 is reported to be 70% completed, while Block 2 is at 60% completion.

Construction of Ugbo Health Center: 

This health center project, initiated to address the healthcare needs of Ugbo Okpala, is 40% completed.

Reconstruction of Central School Awgu:

Recognizing its significance, Chairman Nwankwo declared a state of emergency on this project. Considerable progress has been made in a relatively short time.


Construction of Olie Awgu Lock Up Shops:

Delay in this project resulted from legal disputes. The Chairman's aspiration to modernize the Olie Awgu Market was challenged by ongoing litigation. Every detail on the Orie Awgu Market project in partnership with Awgu Egbeleli development union are also documented for transparency and subject to verification.

The Independent Observers for Good Governance has pledged to support their findings with pictorials and videos to provide a comprehensive view of their investigations.

This development marks a significant milestone in the career of Chairman Pedro Okwudili Nwankwo, showcasing his dedication to delivering on promises and his commitment to the development of Awgu Local Government Area. 


The exoneration comes as a breath of fresh air, affirming the Chairman's reputation as a true performer in the service of his community and constituents.
