President Bola Tinubu has taken swift action by relieving the Chief Executive Officers of three key agencies within the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovations, and Digital Economy of their duties. This abrupt decision was revealed in an official statement released by the President's Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. The statement, titled 'President Tinubu appoints new leadership across the communications, innovation, and digital economy sectors,' announced the immediate removal of the following individuals:
Prof. Umar Garba Danbatta - CEO of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).
Sunday Adepoju - CEO of the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST).
Tukur Funtua - CEO of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NIGCOMSAT).
Their replacements were swiftly named by President Tinubu. Aminu Maida will assume the role of Executive Vice Chairman and CEO of the NCC. Nkechi Egerton-Idehen has been appointed as the Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, and Tola Odeyemi is to take on the responsibilities of Postmaster General at NIPOST.
In a twist, President Tinubu also made the decision to reappoint Kashifu Abdullahi as the Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NiTDA) and Dr. Vincent Olatunji as the National Commissioner of the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDCP).
Moreover, the President, in recognition of the importance of technology and the digital economy, appointed Idris Alubankudi as the new Special Adviser on Technology and Digital Economy.
This sudden overhaul of leadership within these vital agencies is expected to have a significant impact on the direction of the country's communications, innovations, and digital economy sectors. The new appointees will face the challenge of continuing the progress made under their predecessors and addressing the evolving needs of the digital age.
