In his bid to uplift women and improving the livelihoods of families in Enugu State, the Enugu State Government has partnered with the World Bank, contributing over N450 million Naira in counterpart funds for the "Nigeria for Women Project Enugu State." This initiative is executed under the Ministry of Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development and is aligned with the vision of His Excellency, Barr Peter Mbah, Governor of Enugu State, to eradicate poverty within the region.

This landmark partnership was recently announced by Hon. Mrs Ngozi Enih, the Enugu State Commissioner for Children, Gender Affairs, and Social Development, who lauded Governor Peter Mbah's remarkable commitment to women empowerment. "the Governor's dedication to this cause is evident in his pioneering move as the first Nigerian governor to promptly provide the expected counterpart funds, marking a significant milestone in the state's efforts to enhance women's livelihoods"

For efficiency and service delivery, Gov. Peter Mbah created a state office for the project and appointed a vibrant and experienced young woman, Barr. Blessing Ogbonna as a Project Coordinator to drive the activities of the women empowerment programme.

"In addition to the substantial investment, Governor Peter Mbah has further demonstrated his commitment by granting a generous 50% waiver on the registration fees for women cooperative society beneficiaries. This waiver is designed to facilitate easy access to the funds, aligning with the Governor's campaign promises to alleviate poverty and boost economic development" she said.

Speaking about the project, Hon. Ngozi Enih further stated, "The 450 Million Naira Counterpart fund is very massive, and on behalf of the entire women in Enugu State, we say a big thank you to Gov. Peter Mbah for this wonderful opportunity he has given the women." Her words reflect the gratitude felt by the women of Enugu State for the Governor's visionary leadership and unwavering support.
