NUJ Mourns Enugu AIT Reporter, Jimmy


The Enugu State Chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) is in mourning following the untimely demise of Jimmy Edeabasi Abaekong, a dedicated reporter from the African Independent Television (AIT). Jimmy's passing has left a void in the journalism community, especially among those who worked closely with him at the Enugu Government House.


Jimmy Abaekong, who originally hailed from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, brought his unwavering commitment to journalism when he relocated from Ebonyi State to Enugu. He had been a prominent figure at the Enugu Government House, where he diligently covered significant events and developments in the state.


In a poignant message posted on the Enugu NUJ platform, the union expressed its sorrow, stating, "It is with a heavy heart that the NUJ Enugu State Council announces the sudden demise of our member, Jimmy Edeabasi Abaekong of AIT, whose sad event occurred on the 29th of September 2023 during a brief illness. Jimmy was of the PBC and hailed from Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. The peaceful Government House reporter would be greatly missed by all. Good night, Jimmy!"


Jimmy Abaekong's dedication to reporting and his contributions to the field of journalism in Enugu will be remembered by his colleagues and the community he served.
