In a step towards the transformation of Enugu State, Governor Peter Mbah has officially initiated the construction of the New Enugu City, a sprawling urban development project, along with a 40km dual carriageway and the construction/reconstruction of 71 urban roads within the state capital.
At the symbolic flag-off event held at the Premier Layout road project site, Governor Mbah reaffirmed his commitment to deliver these ambitious projects promptly. He declared that all 71 urban roads would be simultaneously executed and completed by the end of December.
Governor Mbah stated, "These 71 roads, identified in the first phase, will be completed within the timeframe specified. The necessary funds have been secured, and we are determined to prevent any variations, delays, or time overruns. Strict monitoring will ensure compliance with the agreed standards and timelines."
Emphasizing the quality of the infrastructure, he added, "We are providing the highest quality of roads with well-paved pedestrian paths, streetlights, and durable construction, ensuring long-lasting infrastructure."
The New Enugu City project, spanning 10,000 hectares of land off Enugu-Abakaliki Road and crossing multiple local government areas, is a vision for the future of Enugu. Governor Mbah expressed his aspiration for the city to rival global metropolises, saying, "We will have a functional New Enugu City within the next 24 months."
The New Enugu City project is under the capable hands of the China Communication Construction Company (CCCC) and aims to incorporate a dedicated power project, central sewage system, high-speed internet, and various modern amenities. The first phase will encompass Happy Island, Vitality Bay, and Innovation Park.
Governor Mbah's dedication to infrastructure development also extended to the 40km Owo-Ubahu-Amankanu-Neke-Ikem dual carriageway, seen as a vital gateway to North Central Nigeria. This road will facilitate access to rural areas and promote economic development, emphasizing both agricultural self-sufficiency and the export of agricultural products.
In total, 400km of roads have been flagged for construction in the initial phase of the government's ambitious plan to build 10,000km of roads.
Contractors, led by Henry Li, Deputy Managing Director of CCCC Nigeria, assured the government of their commitment to delivering high-quality projects on time. Li stated, "As the entrusted contractor, we recognize the responsibility that comes with this significant project and pledge to deliver it on time and with the highest quality."
The local communities, along with their leaders and traditional rulers, showed overwhelming support for the governor's vision, promising cooperation to ensure the rapid and smooth completion of these transformative projects. The groundbreaking initiatives aim to improve the lives of Enugu residents and create a vibrant future for the state.
