A shocking incident has sent shockwaves through Queen’s Convent School in Awka, Anambra State, where a gateman employed by the school authorities allegedly impregnated three students. The institution, owned by the Anglican Diocese of Awka, is reeling from the scandal, which has ignited tension and outrage among students, parents, and guardians.

The accused gateman, who hails from Akwa Ibom state, reportedly preyed upon vulnerable students in SS-2. One of the victims was pushed to the brink, attempting to take her own life by leaping from an upstairs window of the hostel. Fortunately, the quick intervention of fellow students and teachers prevented this tragic incident.

This disturbing revelation has shed light on a series of complaints made by students to the school authorities about the gateman's inappropriate behavior. Shockingly, these pleas went unanswered, leaving the girls exposed to harm.

The gateman's deceptive tactics, including ear piercings and tattoos, played a role in his ability to manipulate the young students. Questions are being raised about the decision to employ a young man, approximately 28-30 years old, as a security personnel in an all-female school. Some teachers and students had voiced their preference for older male security personnel who would provide a fatherly presence.

The Principal of the Anglican Convent college, who happens to be the wife of the Anglican Archbishop on the Niger, Most Rev. Dr. Alexander Ibezim, has yet to make a statement regarding the incident. The school authorities have not disclosed any decisions concerning the future of the impregnated students or the accused gateman.

Concerned parents and guardians have expressed their outrage and frustration, some even threatening to withdraw their children from the Mission school. They lament that mission schools no longer uphold the values they once cherished.

As the community grapples with this distressing situation, the authorities are under immense pressure to address the allegations and restore faith in the institution. Further investigations and actions are anticipated in the days ahead.
