In a current operation, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has conducted targeted air strikes on suspected hideouts of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) in Anambra and Imo states. The operation, executed on September 26, 2023, was in response to credible intelligence gathered by the NAF.
Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, the Director of NAF Public Relations and Information, released a statement confirming the successful strikes on two key locations. The first target was Mother Valley Orsumughu in Nnewi South Local Government Area of Anambra State, while the second was Aku Ihube in Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State.
The operation was conducted by aircraft under the Air Component of Operation Udo Ka II, with the primary objective of disrupting the nefarious activities of IPOB/ESN and preventing further acts of violence against innocent Nigerians. Air Commodore Gabkwet declared that the strikes at both locations had achieved their intended outcome and were deemed highly effective in neutralizing threats posed by these groups.
The NAF's action comes as part of ongoing efforts by security forces to maintain peace and security in the region and ensure the safety of citizens. Further details of the operation and its impact are expected to be revealed in the coming days.
