Enugu State Government Takes Bold Step to Enhance Public Safety: Bans Use of Unauthorised Vehicle Tinted Glass

In a resolute move aimed at countering the growing threats posed by criminal syndicates, including kidnappers, the Enugu State Government has unveiled a comprehensive strategy. Aiming to proactively address security concerns, the government has instituted a ban on the unauthorized use of tinted glasses on vehicles within the state. The announcement, made by Professor Chidiebere Onyia, the Secretary to the State Government, underscores the administration's commitment to curbing criminal activities and creating a more secure environment for the citizens of Enugu.

The prohibition, set to be enforced from Monday, September 4, 2023, after a four-week grace period, serves as a crucial step toward safeguarding the state's residents and upholding the rule of law. Vehicle owners are urged to comply with the new regulations by removing or replacing tinted glasses without valid Police Tinted Permits, issued prior to the suspension of issuance by the Nigeria Police Force on 7th June 2021. Failure to adhere to these measures will result in the impoundment of vehicles, only to be released upon payment of fines and the removal or replacement of the prohibited tinted glasses.

The Enugu State Government earnestly seeks the public's cooperation and understanding to ensure the effectiveness of this pivotal initiative.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

ENUGU GOVERNMENT BANS THE UNAUTHORIZED USE OF VEHICLE TINTED GLASSES IN THE STATE

In line with its determination to combat the nefarious activities of kidnappers and other criminal elements, the Enugu State Government hereby bans the unauthorised use of vehicle tinted glasses in the state.

The ban shall take effect after four (4) weeks of this notice, with consequent enforcement starting on Monday, September 4, 2023. This is to give owners of vehicles with tinted glasses, who did not obtain Police Tinted Permits before the suspension of its issuance by the Nigeria Police Force on 7th June 2021, sufficient time to have them removed or replaced (if they are factory fitted), in accordance with the provisions of the law.

Defaulting vehicles shall be impounded by the enforcement taskforce and shall not be released to their owners until the tinted glasses are removed or replaced and the specified fines paid.

It is important to reiterate that the ban is primarily aimed at curtailing the activities of criminals and to generally enhance the security and safety of the good people and residents of Enugu State. We therefore solicit the understanding and cooperation of the general public in this regard.
