In a daring operation, Enugu Police Command's operatives have successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt, taking down two criminals and rescuing their victim after a fierce exchange of gunfire.
According to a press statement released by DSP Daniel Ndukwe, spokesperson for the Enugu Command, a collaborative effort between Special Forces, Awkunanaw Police Division, and Tactical Teams led to the victorious mission. The team, under the command of DCP Olasoji Akinbayo, engaged the criminals in a gunfight and managed to liberate the male victim on Sunday night, August 20th, 2023, at approximately 8 PM. The operation took place at Centenary, situated along the Enugu/Port-Harcourt Expressway.
During the confrontation, one of the criminals known as 'Baron' was swiftly neutralized on the spot, while other members of the gang fled, sustaining gunshot injuries. Notably, the victim's black Lexus 350 Jeep was recovered alongside a locally crafted revolver gun loaded with four cartridges and another makeshift pistol owned by the assailants.
Following the skirmish, an extensive search for the remaining fugitives led to the discovery of the lifeless body of the second criminal, identified as Chukwunonso a.k.a. 'Nolly', in a forest where the clash had taken place. The two neutralized individuals had been under the Command's radar, highlighting the success of the operation in apprehending criminals previously on law enforcement's watchlist.
DSP Ndukwe attributed the accomplishment to the novel crime-fighting tactics introduced by CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), the new Commissioner of Police for Enugu State. The Commissioner applauded the swiftness of the officers in adapting to the revised strategies and urged them to maintain their vigilance. He emphasized his uncompromising stance against unrepentant criminals in the state, affirming that his tenure would offer them no respite.
With this impressive achievement, the Enugu Police Command has showcased its dedication to safeguarding citizens and maintaining peace within the region.
