Enugu Lawmakers, Hon. Atu, Hon. Mrs. Ugwu, Grace Jedidiah Estate New Yam Festival


Enugu's Jedidiah Estate in Centenary City was aglow with the vibrant hues of tradition as the New Yam festival took center stage on August 20th, 2023. Esteemed dignitaries, including Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, Chairman of the House of Representatives’ Parliamentary Friendship Group with the Republic of Greece, and Hon. Obiajulu Princess Ugwu, Deputy Chief Whip & Member representing Enugu South (Rural) at the State House of Assembly, graced the event.


Jedidiah Estate stands as a testament to modern urban planning, a harmonious blend of tradition and progress. While it flourishes as an urban hub, it remains steadfast in preserving Igbo traditions, exemplified by the annual New Yam festival.


During the festival, City Rep, Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, was bestowed with the title of Ezienyi 1 Nke Ndi Jedidiah Estate by the Igwe of Jedidiah Garden Estate and his Cabinet. This honor was in recognition of Hon. Atu's visionary leadership and unwavering dedication. In response, Hon. Atu expressed gratitude and pledged collaboration with the estate to enhance security through the installation of street lights.

Hon. Princess Obiajulu was also honored with the title of Ada Di Ora Nma 1 of Jedidiah Estate, acknowledging her commitment as the representative for Enugu South Rural in the State House of Assembly. She reaffirmed her dedication to working alongside Hon. Atu to bring democratic dividends to the estate's residents.


The festival showcased Hon. Atu's people-oriented approach and accessibility, cementing his reputation as a dedicated leader. The occasion served as a poignant reminder of Igbo culture's resilience in the face of modernity, ensuring its preservation for generations to come.


Speaking at the event, Mr. Amadi Eze praised the collaborative efforts of Hon. Chimaobi Sam Atu, highlighting how his progressive leadership and cultural celebration continue to uplift Enugu South/North constituencies.
