Breaking! Enugu Senator To Chair Senate Committee On Solid Minerals, Doubles as Deputy Chairman of Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics, Designated member of Several other Committees

The Nigerian Senate has named a senator representing Enugu West, Osita Ngwu, to helm the crucial Senate Committee on Solid Minerals, while also taking on the role of Deputy Chairman for the Senate Committee on Drugs and Narcotics. The President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, unveiled these appointments during a special plenary session late Monday night, following the confirmation of 45 ministerial nominees forwarded by President Bola Tinubu.

In his capacity as President of the Senate, Senator Akpabio commended the selection of Senator Ngwu, representing Enugu West Senatorial District, for these prominent positions. He emphasized that Ngwu's qualifications, experience, and capability would be pivotal in ensuring the effective performance and completion of the committees' tasks.

Senator Ngwu boasts an impressive educational background, with a Bachelor of Engineering degree from Enugu State University of Science and Technology in 2001, as well as an M.Sc from the Business School at the University of Roe Hampton, London, UK, attained in 2016. Furthermore, he is affiliated with esteemed professional bodies, including the Nigerian Society of Engineers (MNSE), Nigerian Mechanical Engineers Association (MNMEA), and the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN).

Having accumulated a dynamic career spanning 15 years in the oil and gas industry, Senator Ngwu's contributions have been nothing short of outstanding. Rising from a trainee engineer to an Executive Director, he gained substantial experience in various roles related to the Design, Procurement, Construction, and Management of oil and gas infrastructures within the upstream sector, both offshore and onshore.

During his tenure from 2007 to 2010 at Baywood Continental Limited, Senator Ngwu was deeply involved in crafting EPCSS Technical and Commercial Proposals, including reviewing subcontract agreements and joint venture contracts for major oil and gas projects. His in-depth cost/risk analyses ensured proposals adhered to clients' instructions, policies, and tender conditions.

From 2010 to 2016, Senator Ngwu played an integral role in the Engineering, Procurement, Supply, Construction, and Commissioning (EPSCC) of OML Phase 1 – O.U.R 42” X 45Km Gas Pipeline Project for Total Exploration and Production Nigeria Limited at ZB Joint Venture Limited. This ambitious endeavor marked the largest onshore gas pipeline construction in Nigeria and Sub-Saharan Africa.

Apart from his chairmanship and deputy chairmanship appointments, Senator Ngwu has been designated as a member of several key Senate Committees. These include the Committees on Works, Health, Public Accounts, FERMA, FCT, Oil and Gas Host Communities, ICT and Cybercrimes, National Planning and Economic Affairs, Local Content, Customs, Exercise, and Tariffs, and Science and Technology.
