Should we cast our minds back to the last time Enugu State had a new university, it was during the reign of Chief Jim Ifeanyichukwu Nwobodo who then as the governor of old Anambra State founded Anambra State University of Science and Technology(ASUTECH) now, upon the creation of Enugu State, transmuted to Enugu State University of Science and Technology ( ESUT). Chief Nwobodo, the then young charismatic governor of the old Anambra State, like Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, was an achiever full of ideas translated to tangibles brought to bear on monumental developmental strides whose imprints have outlived the test of time.
Few days ago, the news of the approval of State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS) by National University Commission(NUC) for Enugu State came alive to the joy and jubilation in the entire Enugu State for this new thing Governor Ugwuanyi has done, a giant stride, a monumentally indelible landmark of the Ugwuanyi Administration wrought to enhance education, job creation, poverty alleviation, development and the value chain prospects the new university holds- something for which our dear governor will be remembered forever- so long as life exists on earth.
The location of this university already constructed with state-of-the-art facilities on ground at Igbo-eno in Udenu Local Government has gone a long way to reassure the people of Enugu North Senatorial Zone that though Ugwuanyi is not clannish, he would not also neglect his people. The people of Nsukka cultural zone can now bend low and count the many blessings of the Ugwuanyi Administration to them.
Governor Ugwuanyi by his nature is a kindhearted leader whose every breath is the good and advancement of a united Enugu State. Ugwuanyi has a cosmopolitan approach to development and so stands above the mesh of nepotism, the idiocy of divisiveness and irredentist shenanigans. He has spread his many projects across the 17 local governments in Enugu State equitably. The three senatorial zones have copiously received the light of the Ugwuanyi Administration.
There was a time it appeared to some section of Enugu North Senatorial Zone as though Governor Ugwuanyi had not done much in the area and that was informed by this sense of entitlement as though Ugwuanyi was the governor of Enugu North alone. Some had excoriated the governor for not relocating many state institutions to Nsukka area. Many who did criticize from the perspective of ignorance have now turned a new leaf upon their realization that the son of David meant well. When Governor Ugwuanyi attracted the Federal Polytechnic to Ohodo in Igbo-Etiti Local Government and relocated some faculty of the Enugu State Polytechnic to Nsukka; built an unprecedented stadium at Nsukka, cited Type 3 hospitals here and there at Enugu North and made many appointments to the youths, the people had begun to realize that Governor Ugwuanyi's thoughts are good thoughts meant to make life better for the entire citizenry of Enugu State.
Governor Ugwuanyi is a cerebral deep thinker. Many may not realize the purpose of certain decisions he takes at the outset. Governor Ugwuanyi is like a mathematician on the task of balancing equations. When a side of the fraction is cancelled out, those who do not know the formula may cry wolf but when the equation is mathematically balanced, they would realize that after all there is method in madness. Today, the people of Enugu State are happy and luxuriate in the balmy developmental milestones of the excellent leadership His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyichukwu Lawrence Ugwuanyi, provides.
SUMAS is massive and holds the prospects of a new beginning for the people of Enugu North. It will also benefit the people of the state in many ways. It is a great legacy Ugwuanyi bequeaths the people. To God be the glory for the gift of Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi to the people of Enugu State.
For the government of the incoming governor of Enugu State, Barr. Peter Mbah, Ugwuanyi's performance is a challenge that has got to be met and presumably surpassed. Thank goodness Peter Mbah and his running mate, Barr. Ifeanyi Ossai, are a crack team of highly cerebral and innovative experts in cutting-edge 21st century strategies for positively impactful human governance, resources management and developmental goals.
