While the 2023 general elections draw nearer, a prominent Enugu North PDP support group, Enugu North Canvassers, led by Chidimma Domitila Ozioko has commenced a ward-to-ward campaign tour, reaching out to all localities in the senatorial zone to sensitize and educate the electorates in the grassroots on electoral procedures and canvass for votes for Gov. Ugwuanyi and all PDP candidates.
Recall that Enugu North Canvassers are predominantly youths who were spotted distributing gift items and campaigning for Ugwuanyi in major markets in Enugu North Senatorial Zone last year.
The support group witnessed massive turnout of local dwellers who assembled during their ward-to-ward campaign tour in Ezzi Ngwu Ward, Igbo-Eze South Local Government Area where they enlightened them on the 2023 voting system, while reminding them on the need to vote for His Excellency, governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and all PDP candidates in the state.
While addressing the audience in a local dialect, Chidimma took time to disect the functionalities and connectivities of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), an innovation introduced by INEC. In her words, BVAS is an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters. BVAS can also be seen as a technology solution based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and is only as good as both the age of the data and the training that the algorithms receive.
"electoral malpractices have become more widespread, while the conduct of election in Nigeria has become increasingly difficult and cumbersome, thus, incidents such as vote-buying, ballot box snatching and stuffing them with ballot papers, pre-written election results, violence and intimidation of eligible voters are over with the introduction of BVAS"
"BVAS is an electronic device designed to read Permanent Voters Cards (PVCs) and authenticate voters using the voters’ fingerprints and facial dictations in order to prove that they are eligible to vote at a particular polling unit. It's usage entails either scanning the barcode/QR code on the PVC/Voter’s register or entering the last six digits of the Voter Identity Number or typing in the last name of the voter by the Assistant Presiding Officer (APO 1) to verify and authenticate the voter. It also acts as the INEC Voter Enrolment Device (IVED) during voter registration. Its usage has also eliminated the use of incident forms during accreditation on an election day" she said.
Recounting the numerous achievements of Governor Ugwuanyi’s administration, the Enugu North Canvassers reminded the people of Igboeze South what the state, the zone and their local government has benefited from the current administration of their son, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, the Executive Governor of Enugu State.
The members of the community were excited, thanked the group for bringing the new knowledge of BVAS down to their locality and pledged their readiness to vote for Gov. Ugwuanyi and PDP, promised to take the message to other members in their various communities. They also made a compassionate request that their communities be remembered after the elections.
The electorates rejoiced home with Wrappers, Salt and other gift items from the group.
