Ugwuanyi Restores Peace as Eha Breathes Fresh Air

By Eze Nwamadi and Ogbonna Asadu

It is no longer news how daredevil bloodhounds in the name of Fulani herders unleashed carnage on communities in Eha Amufu such as Mgbuji and Agu-Amede for no just cause. What, however, is important now and relieving is the way Governor Ugwuanyi wades in to quel the bloodbath. Many thanks to the governor, a man of peace.

Ndigbo have a saying that it is the rat at home that tells the rat outside that there is fish in the smoker. The people of Eha-Amufu had been torn apart by political bickering here and there, while those who purport to be the political leaders looked the other way while their own people were butchered like animals. They are only concerned about politics, as human lives meant nothing to them. Some of them feast on the carnage, driving some kind of sadistic pleasure from the situation as they relished it as evident that the much acclaimed Ugwuanyi's peace in Enugu State had been demystified. They would not care about the loss of lives and property in Eha.

His Excellency, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was himself grieved at the wanton killing of people in Eha despite his huge investments in securing peace and security in the state. The security apparatchiks can attest to Ugwuanyi's predilection for peace given the huge amount of money he expends on peace. Feelers from some quarters have it that the dog is the one biting the bone hung on its neck. Whether that is true is a story for another day. What is important now is the restoration of absolute peace in Eha-Amufu.

Upon investigation, it was found yet again that the factional leaders of the town aided and abetted the breach of peace in the land. Ugwuanyi swiftly waded in; called for a meeting of all stakeholders in Isi-Uzo and reconciled them, having impressed on them the dangerous effects of their continued disunity. The clergy, traditional rulers, town union presidents, community leaders and village heads from Isi-Uzo, especially of Eha-Amufu extraction, were present at the meeting and with one voice spoke Ugwuanyi's language of peace and security.

Governor Ugwuanyi also would take a measure to quel the border clashes between the Enugu and Benue border communities that have also led to the killings. He would engage Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State to bring to a stop the restiveness at the borders. This is how to tackle the security challenges from the roots, for if the border communities are at peace with one another, the Fulani killers would not find a place of anchor. Meanwhile, Ugwuanyi has caused the beef up of security at the wartorn communities as more soldiers and mobile policemen are deployed to the flashpoints.

It is commendable of Governor Ugwuanyi to have found a lasting solution to the pogrom at Eha-Amufu. The people of Eha-Amufu can now have a new lease of life. The conscienceless and mindless politicians who hope to continue to play politics with the lives of Ndi Eha had better watch it as that will never be possible again. While it is unfortunate that the lives of innocent persons were taken, it shall no more repeat itself as Governor Ugwuanyi has made that impossible going forward.
