ENUGU 2023: MGBAGBU OWA COMMUNITY, NURTW/AECT REITERATE CONFIDENCE IN PDP CANDIDATES

As endorsements of PDP candidates across Enugu West Senatorial District continue to gather momentum, the people of Mgbagbu-Owa (ward I & II) have joined their sister communities in Ezeagu LGA to endorse the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) candidates ahead of the 2023 general elections.

Addressing the National and State Assembly candidates at the country home of Chief Vitalis Nnamdi Ozonweke (Andy Young) on Sunday, 30th October, 2022, the traditional prime minister of Mgbagbu-Owa (ward I), Chief Ozonweke Nwafor reassured the PDP of their support to its flag bearers, stressing that the party will remain formidable in the community.

In their separate speeches, the pioneer councilor of Mgbagbu-Owa (ward I) and the serving councilor, Hon. Reuben Madu and Hon. Obi Okafor respectively, thanked the guests for making out time to interface with them. They however bemoaned the gross neglect of successive governments both in infrastructural and human capital investments to the community, stating that all social amenities in the community are sole efforts of well meaning individuals.

They called on the PDP candidates to leverage on their vast experience and political connections to attract government presence to the community when elected.

In his brief remark, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Andy Young Limited and host, Chief Vitalis Nnamdi Ozonweke congratulated the guests for emerging the PDP National and State Assembly flag bearers. He expressed confidence in their ability to successfully navigate the people through the deep and murky political waters especially at the federal level, adding that the choice of the party in its candidates is very encouraging.

The business magnet also lamented the political backwardness of the community which according to him, is very disheartening. He further reiterated their resolve to vote for the party and urged them to ensure that they keep to their own part of the bargain when elected.

On the other hand, the people of Ozom Mgbagbu-Owa (ward II) have unanimously pledged their allegiance to the PDP and its candidates. 

Welcoming the PDP candidates at the Ozom Mgbagbu-Owa Civic Center, the councilor, Hon. Nnachetam Chinanuekpere expressed confidence in their capacity to deliver effective service to the people.

A party stakeholder in the community, Hon. Obinna Chukwuadibe while presenting the community's demands to the candidates, thanked God for the caliber of personae representing the PDP in the general elections, describing them as credible and reliable.

Also, the President General (PG) of Ozom Mgbagbu-Owa (ward II), Engr. Tobias Mogbu expressed profound appreciation to the guests for the visit and prayed God to grant them resounding victory at the poll.

In a related development, the Association of Ezeagu Commercial Transporters (AECT) under the aegis of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) have also declared their total support for the PDP candidates.

The Union made the declaration by its Chairman, Hon. Chief Tony Morphy Akpata during an interactive session at the Ezeagu LGA Secretariat.

Chief Apkata said that the union is delighted with the quality of the PDP candidates, stating that it will galvanize both members and non-members of the union to vote massively for the PDP at the State level. 

Responding, the Enugu West Senatorial candidate for the PDP, Engr. Osita Ngwu, RG, thanked the people for coming out en mass, said he was privileged to interact with them. He stated that their various concerns have been heard and duly noted, stressing that the people's welfare and interests would be his core priority. 
He added that if elected, he would partner with all relevant authorities and critical stakeholders to ensure that every nook and cranny of Enugu West is affected positively. He therefore encouraged the people to remain steadfast in their support for the party, maintaining that everyone is a relevant stakeholder in the Enugu West project regardless of political positions and other considerations.
Expressing concern for their travails, the PDP candidate for Udi/Ezeagu federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Dr. F.S.A. Uzor deeply appreciated the people for their unflinching support for the party, especially the traditional prime minister of Mgbagbu-Owa (ward I), Chief Ozonweke Nwafor, whom he described as a political maestro and pioneer member of the PDP who has nurtured many a great and influencial politicians.

He pointed out that he was well acquainted with their challenges, adding that as an elected federal parliamentarian, he would stand a better chance to sponsor people-oriented bills and liaise with his colleagues and the Executive arm of government to adequately address them. He further appealed to them to not relent in their prayers and support for the party especially in the forthcoming general elections.

In his brief remark, the member representing Ezeagu State constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly and the candidate of the party, Rt. Hon. Barr. Chima Obieze admitted that Mgbagbu-Owa (ward I) is shortchanged and politically disadvantaged, stating that more effort must be made to ensure that they are well carried along in both provision of basic infrastructure and political appointments.

He thanked them for still supporting the party in spite of the obvious neglect and prayed God to bless them abundantly.

Flanked by his Udi LGA counterpart, Hon. Nze. Philip Okoh, the Executive Chairman of Ezeagu LGA, Hon. Chukwudi Ozoeluba thanked the people for their warm reception. He said that the PDP candidates are already established in their respective careers and are not pursuing personal interests, hence they would deliver. He added that he is determined to leave a legacy in the community before the expiration of his tenure.

Earlier on, the Enugu West Campaign Council joined Very Rev. Fr. Benjamin Ochiagha and the parishioners of St. Luke's Parish, Awhum in the "Maiden Parish Feast Celebration/Merit Award and Fund-Raising for the completion of its church building. The team later joined the Parish Priest of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Agbaja Umumba Ndiuno, Rev. Fr. Paschal Aneke to celebrate with him on the occasion of his tenth year Priestly anniversary at the Church premises.
