The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has celebrated educators across Nigeria on the occasion of the 2026 World Teachers’ Day, expressing appreciation for their dedication to teaching, mentorship and the lasting impact they make on society.
In a message issued on Monday, October 5, 2026, to commemorate World Teachers’ Day, NELFUND specifically recognised educators in Nigeria’s higher institutions, describing them as important contributors to the development of minds and the preparation of future leaders.
The Fund said the occasion was an opportunity to celebrate educators who continue to challenge minds, inspire possibilities and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
NELFUND Statement
“Today, we celebrate the educators in our higher institutions who challenge minds, inspire possibilities and shape the leaders of tomorrow.
Thank you for your dedication, mentorship and the lasting impact you make in our society.”
The message reflects NELFUND’s broader focus on expanding access to higher education and supporting the development of Nigeria’s human capital. The Fund administers the Federal Government’s student loan scheme, which provides zero-interest loans to eligible Nigerian students to support institutional charges and upkeep.
World Teachers’ Day is observed annually on October 5 to recognise the contributions of teachers and reflect on the support needed to strengthen the teaching profession. The 2026 celebration also marks 60 years of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers.
NELFUND’s message comes amid renewed national attention on teacher development, professional excellence and the role of educators in preparing Nigerians for a rapidly changing world. At the national 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration, the Federal Government also reaffirmed the importance of continuous teacher development and stressed that emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, cannot replace the human connection and professional judgement of teachers.
while the nation marks the day, NELFUND extended its appreciation to educators whose commitment goes beyond the classroom to mentorship, character formation and the preparation of the next generation of leaders.
Happy World Teachers’ Day 2026!
