...PWDs Commission Chairman, Eze Jude Chuka, Thanked ths governor for inclusive leadership, commends Lloyd Ekweremadu’s support
The Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has approved the dedication of a section of the state stadium to persons with disabilities (PWDs), in a move aimed at promoting accessibility, dignity and inclusive participation in sporting and public events.
The Chairman of the Governing Board of the Enugu State Persons with Disabilities Commission, Hon. Eze Jude Chuka, announced the development, describing it as a significant step towards building a society where persons with disabilities are recognised, respected and accommodated in public infrastructure.
Chuka disclosed that he had been invited by the engineers handling the project to provide professional guidance on accessibility requirements and supervise the work already carried out to ensure the facility meets the needs of persons with disabilities.
He expressed satisfaction with the progress and attention being given to the project, noting that accessibility must go beyond providing physical space to ensuring comfort, dignity and safe participation for PWDs.
According to him, the initiative reflects Governor Mbah’s commitment to making public facilities across Enugu State more inclusive and responsive to the needs of all residents, irrespective of their physical abilities.
Expressing his appreciation to the governor, Chuka said he had not witnessed any previous administration in the state place such emphasis on the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.
“In all my years of following the affairs of PWDs, I have not seen a governor who has made our welfare such a priority. He is the best governor Enugu State has ever had, a leader with a heart of gold for PWDs,” he said.
The commission chairman praised Mbah for what he described as turning the ideals of inclusion into practical action, adding that the dedicated stadium section would help ensure that persons with disabilities can participate more comfortably in sporting activities and other events.
He also commended the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Lloyd Ekweremadu, for his support and cooperation in bringing the initiative to fruition.
Chuka said the commission appreciated the commissioner’s commitment to implementing the governor’s vision, stressing that collaboration among relevant government institutions was essential to achieving meaningful inclusion.
He noted that Enugu State was setting an example for other states by demonstrating how deliberate planning and disability-conscious infrastructure could promote equal access to public spaces.
The development underscores the importance of integrating accessibility into public infrastructure, ensuring that persons with disabilities are not left behind in the state’s development agenda.
Chuka concluded by expressing gratitude to Governor Mbah for prioritising the welfare of PWDs and prayed for God’s continued blessings upon the governor and his administration.
He expressed optimism that the initiative would further strengthen Enugu State’s drive towards an inclusive society where every resident can enjoy dignity, access and a sense of belonging.
