...Enugu North Council sponsors traders’ football tournament to promote youth development, community unity and sporting talent

The Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, has flagged off the Coal Camp Traders Association Football Tournament, popularly known as the “Tinker’s League,” reaffirming the council’s commitment to grassroots sports development, youth empowerment and community engagement.

The tournament kicked off on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at St. Peter’s Field, Coal Camp, Enugu, with the sponsorship of Enugu North Local Government Area.

The event was attended by Hon. Chimaobi Atu, Member representing Enugu North and South Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, alongside traders, youths and other community stakeholders.

Beyond the excitement of football, the competition provides an avenue for young people to showcase their talents, build friendships, cultivate discipline and strengthen unity among residents of Coal Camp.

The flag-off also offered an opportunity for political engagement, as the organisers presented the All Progressives Congress (APC) message to youths in the community. According to the organisers, traders and residents expressed appreciation for the council’s sponsorship and declared support for the APC at all levels.

The initiative aligns with Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah’s Tomorrow Is Here vision, with emphasis on creating opportunities for young people, strengthening communities and promoting inclusive development across Enugu State.

Dr. Onoh commended the tournament organisers and wished all participating teams a peaceful and successful competition, expressing hope that the event would contribute to grassroots sports development and stronger community relations.

Tomorrow Is Here!
