September 21, 2026, has once again brought together three powerful themes of life, leadership and peace, as Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, CON, and Ambassador Mrs. Amaka Nweke, Commissioner IV of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission and Ambassador for Peace, celebrate their birthdays on the same day the world observes the United Nations International Day of Peace.
For Ambassador Nweke, the remarkable convergence is far more than a coincidence. It is a deeply symbolic alignment with a life and public career that have been defined by service to humanity, peace-building, advocacy, women’s empowerment, water rights, social justice and grassroots development.
In her special birthday message on Monday, Ambassador Nweke described September 21 as “a triple celebration of grace, leadership, and peace,” explaining that the day brings together the celebration of life, the birthday of an iconic national leader and the global observance of peace.
She began her message by returning all glory to Almighty God for His grace, mercy and preservation, before warmly felicitating with Senator Oluremi Tinubu, whom she described as “the mother of our nation” and a beacon of hope, compassion and motherly love.
“Today, September 21st, 2026, is a day of profound significance and divine alignment,” she stated, noting that it is simultaneously the International Day of Peace, the birthday of the First Lady of Nigeria and the day she was graciously brought into the world.
The significance of the occasion is particularly striking given Ambassador Nweke’s long-standing association with peace advocacy. As an Ambassador for Peace, she has consistently promoted the values of dialogue, tolerance, unity, love, peaceful coexistence and respect for human dignity, making the global observance of peace on her birthday a personal reminder of the calling she has embraced.
“Sharing my birthday with the International Day of Peace is a constant reminder of my calling to promote unity, love, tolerance, and peaceful coexistence among our people. I will continue to champion peace in all my engagements,” she said.

As Commissioner IV of the Enugu State Local Government Service Commission, Ambassador Nweke is part of the institutional framework involved in local government administration and service delivery in Enugu State. Her public profile is equally marked by extensive engagement in water, sanitation and hygiene advocacy, women's empowerment, youth development, social justice and humanitarian intervention.
A renowned water-rights and WASH advocate, she has been associated with campaigns aimed at improving access to clean water, sanitation and hygiene while promoting responsible management of water resources. Through the Network of Water Rights Initiative, where she has served as Secretary of the Board of Trustees and Executive Coordinator, she has participated in advocacy efforts focused on water rights and sustainable resource management.

But water rights represent only one dimension of Ambassador Nweke’s broad humanitarian footprint. Her engagements have covered menstrual hygiene management, handwashing, sanitation, the fight against open defecation, gender-based violence prevention, anti-corruption advocacy, education, youth mentorship and the empowerment of vulnerable groups.
Among the notable milestones in Ambassador Amaka Nweke’s distinguished advocacy career was her historic recognition at the XIX World Water Congress in Marrakech, Morocco, an achievement that further projected her water-rights advocacy and Enugu State’s emerging water agenda onto the international stage. Her return to Enugu was greeted with a grand reception featuring cheers, banners, cultural displays and heartfelt tributes, celebrating the significance of the international honour and the role she played in representing the state at a major global water forum.
Ambassador Nweke dedicated the honour to Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, whom she described as the true architect of Enugu’s global breakthrough, acknowledging his visionary leadership, bold reforms and confidence in competence. She noted that her journey from the conception of the Water-City vision to the international recognition in Morocco was strengthened by the Governor’s support and his commitment to empowering women to lead. While describing the recognition as an honour for the entire state, she particularly commended Governor Mbah’s “courage, foresight, and transformative agenda” for creating the pathway that enabled Enugu to take its place on the global water stage.
Her community interventions have taken her into schools, communities and grassroots settings, where she has combined advocacy with practical assistance. In one of her birthday outreaches, she visited a local school to educate students on menstrual hygiene and sanitation while donating sanitary pads to young girls. She has also participated in humanitarian interventions for Persons With Disabilities and other vulnerable members of society.
Her passion for grassroots inclusion was particularly evident when she celebrated with artisans at Ogbonmanu, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu, bringing her birthday celebration directly to masons, carpenters, painters, builders, bricklayers, tilers, plumbers, roofers and other hardworking members of the artisan community.

Beyond her professional and humanitarian activities, Ambassador Nweke has remained deeply involved in civic and political engagement. In her 2026 birthday message, she reaffirmed her loyalty to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his Renewed Hope Agenda, describing herself as a committed party faithful and expressing support for the administration’s stated reform agenda.
