‎

‎ENUGU — The Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Enugu State Chapter and South-East, and Deputy National Publicity Secretary of ALGON, Hon. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh, has congratulated the newly elected local government chairmen in Enugu State, describing their emergence as a reflection of the people’s mandate.

‎Edeh also called on the newly elected council chairmen to embrace shared responsibilities, promote unity and prioritise people-oriented governance in their respective local government areas.

‎In a congratulatory statement issued in Enugu on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, the ALGON chairman commended the peaceful and orderly conduct of the local government council election, noting that the exercise was conducted without rancour, violence or acrimony.

‎He said the successful conclusion of the election demonstrated the level of political cohesion in the state and, in his view, reflected the people’s acceptance of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the transformation agenda of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

‎Edeh commended Governor Mbah, the Enugu State Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), security agencies and other stakeholders for providing an enabling environment for the successful conduct of the election.

‎He noted that the peaceful exercise underscored the importance of effective collaboration among political actors, electoral authorities and security agencies in strengthening democratic governance at the grassroots.

‎The ALGON chairman expressed confidence that the newly elected council chairmen would provide purposeful leadership, strengthen local government administration and reposition their respective councils for sustainable development.

‎“With the successful conclusion of the local government election, we are, by God’s grace, fully prepared for greater transformation and people-oriented governance at the grassroots.

‎“We are further strengthened and prepared for the 2027 elections, as I am optimistic that victory will be ours at all levels because the good people of Enugu State remain solidly behind the vision and leadership of our dear Governor, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah,” he said.

‎Edeh urged the newly elected chairmen to emulate Governor Mbah’s people-oriented initiatives and translate their electoral mandates into tangible improvements in the lives of their constituents.

‎He reminded them that their election was a demonstration of the confidence reposed in them by the people and should therefore be regarded as a call to selfless service, accountability and responsible leadership.

‎According to him, the chairmen must prioritise the welfare of their people and work closely with the state government, ALGON and other development stakeholders to deepen grassroots development, strengthen local governance and advance the Renewed Hope Agenda of Governor Mbah.

‎He further charged the council chairmen to build bridges of unity, peace and development rather than walls of hatred, division and unnecessary partisanship, stressing that collective responsibility remained essential to achieving meaningful progress across the state.

‎The ALGON chairman also applauded Governor Mbah for granting local government councils autonomy and the freedom to operate, arguing that the policy placed a greater responsibility on the newly elected chairmen to deliver on their promises to the electorate.

‎He urged the council chairmen to justify the confidence reposed in them by prioritising accountability, effective governance and tangible development that directly improves the lives of the people.

‎Edeh also called on APC members across the state to remain united, disciplined and committed to consolidating the gains recorded so far, adding that sustained cooperation among party members and elected officials would be necessary to advance the state's development objectives.

‎He reiterated that the future of local government administration in Enugu State depended on the ability of the elected chairmen to work together, put the interests of their people first and maintain a constructive partnership with stakeholders and the state government
