…Asefon Charges Student Leaders on Mobilisation, Responsible Leadership and Patriotism
The City Boy Movement has taken another significant step towards deepening student participation and youth leadership in Nigeria with the inauguration of its Campus Ambassadors across tertiary institutions in Kaduna State.
The inauguration, held on Friday, September 5, 2026, was led by the National Director of the Students Wing of the City Boy Movement and Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, on Students Engagement, Comr. Sunday Asefon Dayo.
The exercise took place at Kaduna Polytechnic and the Federal University of Education, Zaria, and brought together student leaders and representatives from several higher institutions across the state.
Institutions represented included Kaduna Polytechnic, Cooperative College, College of Water Resources, Kaduna University, Nuruddeen Polytechnic, Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), College of Agriculture, College of Legal Studies, and the Federal University of Education, Zaria.
The newly inaugurated Campus Ambassadors, comprising students and registered Permanent Voters' Card (PVC) holders, were entrusted with the responsibility of mobilising, engaging and connecting with fellow students while promoting the vision, values and objectives of the City Boy Movement within their respective institutions.
The event attracted prominent stakeholders and student leaders, including the Kaduna State Director of the City Boy Movement, the Dean of Students Affairs of Kaduna Polytechnic, the State Coordinator of the City Boy Movement in Borno State, the Deputy National Director of the Students Wing, the Special Adviser on Students to the Director General of the City Boy Movement, the NANS North West Coordinator, the National President of Female Students, leaders of indigent students and Students' Union Government (SUG) Presidents from various institutions.
Addressing the students, Asefon conveyed the message and vision of the National Patron of the City Boy Movement, Barr. Seyi Tinubu, and the Director General, Hon. Francis Tosin Soga, emphasising their commitment to advancing the interests of Nigerian students and young people through meaningful engagement, opportunities and empowerment.
A major highlight of the event was the presentation of a letter of appointment to one of the student leaders in the North West Zone as an Assistant Lecturer at the Federal College of Education, Katsina, Katsina State.
The appointment, facilitated through the office of the City Boy Movement's National Director of Students Engagement, was described as a practical demonstration of the movement's commitment to creating opportunities and empowering young Nigerians beyond rhetoric.
The development generated excitement among participants, reinforcing the message that student leadership, capacity building and youth empowerment can translate into tangible opportunities for young people.
Asefon also highlighted the commitment of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to transforming Nigeria's education sector, improving students' welfare and expanding access to quality education across the country.
He urged the newly inaugurated Campus Ambassadors to embrace their responsibilities with maturity, discipline and a strong sense of service.
According to him, the ambassadors must become proactive leaders capable of building strong networks within their institutions and constructively engaging more students with the movement.
He further charged them to uphold the ideals and principles of the City Boy Movement by promoting unity, responsible leadership, patriotism and constructive engagement among students.
The National Director stressed that the ambassadors should see their new positions not merely as titles, but as a call to service and an opportunity to positively influence their campuses and contribute to the development of Nigeria's student community.
The Kaduna inauguration marks another strategic expansion of the City Boy Movement's student engagement structure in the North West, while positioning campus-based student leaders as key stakeholders in youth mobilisation, leadership development and constructive participation in national affairs.
The movement's growing campus network is expected to provide a stronger platform for students to engage on issues affecting their welfare, education, leadership and future opportunities.
