ENUGU — The Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, has been announced as the keynote speaker for the maiden edition of Peter Eze Youth Connect 2026, a landmark youth engagement programme scheduled to hold in Enugu on Thursday, September 10, 2026.
Omidiran is expected to lead a crucial conversation on how young people can move beyond the conventional understanding of federal character and gain greater access to opportunities through the systems and institutions established to promote inclusion and equitable participation.
The event, convened by the Federal Commissioner representing Enugu State at the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze, will take place at the International Conference Centre (ICC), Enugu, from 10:00 a.m. prompt.
It is themed “Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission,” reflecting the organisers’ effort to broaden the conversation around federal character from issues of representation and quotas to the practical opportunities available to young Nigerians.
The choice of the FCC Executive Chairman as keynote speaker is expected to add considerable weight to the maiden edition of the youth-focused initiative, given the Commission’s central role in promoting equitable distribution of opportunities and ensuring fairness in representation across Nigeria.
Her keynote address is expected to provide Enugu youths with valuable insights into the workings of the Federal Character Commission and how young people can better understand, identify and position themselves for opportunities within the national framework.
The event is also expected to provide a platform for participants to explore issues around employment, scholarships, grants, fellowships, internships, entrepreneurship, skills development, digital opportunities, career advancement and leadership, among other areas of interest to young Nigerians.
Organisers say the initiative is designed to address a major challenge confronting many young people: not necessarily the absence of opportunities, but inadequate information about where such opportunities exist, the requirements for accessing them and how to successfully navigate the process.
With Omidiran taking the keynote position, expectations are high that the event will generate a substantive conversation on youth inclusion, opportunity access and the role of institutions in opening pathways for the next generation.
The programme is expected to attract students, graduates, entrepreneurs, job seekers, professionals and other young people from across Enugu State's 17 Local Government Areas.
For Hon. Peter Ogbonna Eze, the event provides an avenue to bring young people closer to credible information and institutional platforms, while encouraging them to become more proactive in identifying and pursuing opportunities.
The organisers have urged Enugu youths to take advantage of the engagement and come prepared to learn, connect and explore practical pathways for personal and professional advancement.
With the theme “Beyond Quotas: Unlocking Opportunities for Enugu Youths Through the Federal Character Commission,” and the FCC Executive Chairman, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, set to deliver the keynote address, the September 10 gathering promises to place opportunity, inclusion and youth participation firmly at the centre of the conversation.
