...As G-17 Deepens Stakeholders’ Engagement In Enugu North Senatorial Zone
...Igwe Asadu Commends G-17 Grassroots Mobilisation, Assures Ndi Nsukka of Support for Governor
The Convener and Director-General of G-17 for Peter Mbah, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, has paid a courtesy visit to His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Dr.) Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, Ogadagidi, at his palace in furtherance of the group's ongoing stakeholders’ engagement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The visit provided an opportunity for the G-17 leadership and the traditional ruler to discuss the political and developmental trajectory of Enugu State, particularly the role of stakeholders in sustaining the gains recorded under the administration of His Excellency, Barr. Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.
During the visit, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah commended Igwe Asadu for what he described as his exemplary leadership and contributions to the growth and unity of the people, urging the traditional ruler to continue championing the interests of the Nsukka Senatorial Zone.
He stressed that traditional institutions have an important role to play in ensuring that the people are adequately informed about developments in the state and encouraged stakeholders to mobilise support for Governor Peter Mbah ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, “As a traditional ruler and loyal father, you have a very big role to play in the forthcoming elections. All hands must be on deck to pay the Governor back for his good work in the zone.”
Hon. Dr. Mbah further highlighted what he described as the significant development benefits accruing to Nsukka under the present administration, noting that the zone has been a major beneficiary of the Governor’s programmes and projects.
He pointed to the establishment of Smart Green Schools, rural road networks, Type-C Primary Healthcare Centres, as well as political appointments and other government interventions across communities in the zone.
“Nsukka is one of the highest beneficiaries of Governor Mbah’s administration, with communities across over 100 political wards benefiting from Smart Green Schools, rural road networks, Type-C healthcare centres and political appointments,” he stated.
The G-17 Convener also cited the emergence of a son of Nsukka as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, describing it as another significant development for the zone.
“Through Governor Mbah, Nsukka has produced its first indigenous Vice-Chancellor of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. These are developments that should make Ndi Nsukka proud,” he said.
He therefore appealed to stakeholders across Nsukka to support the Governor’s administration and resist what he described as attempts by opposition political forces to undermine the progress recorded in the state.
“Ndi Igbo Nsukka should stand and say no to opposition and reward Governor Mbah for his good work,” he added.
Hon. Dr. Mbah particularly appealed to Igwe Asadu, in his capacity as a leading traditional ruler and Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, to use his influence in promoting peace, unity and development across the state.
“The role you need to play as the Chairman of Traditional Rulers in the state is very important. You have a responsibility to ensure that Ndi Igbo Nsukka understand the need to support what is working and continue on the path of development,” he said.
Responding, His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Dr.) Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, popularly known as Ogadagidi, commended Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah and the leadership of G-17 for their grassroots mobilisation efforts across Enugu State.
Igwe Asadu particularly praised the group’s ongoing inauguration and activation of structures across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state, describing the exercise as a significant grassroots engagement initiative.
He said G-17 had demonstrated seriousness and organisation in its approach, noting that its activities had attracted attention across the state.
“G-17 is number one support group,” the traditional ruler stated.
Igwe Asadu assured Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah and the delegation that the administration of Governor Peter Mbah would continue to enjoy the support of the people of Nsukka.
He also acknowledged the importance of continued engagement with traditional institutions and community stakeholders in sustaining peace, development and unity across the state.
His Royal Majesty, Igwe (Dr.) Samuel Ikechukwu Asadu, Ogadagidi, is the traditional ruler of Edem Ani Ogwugwu Ancient Kingdom in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State. He also serves as Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers and Chairman of the South-East Council of Traditional Rulers.
The meeting formed part of G-17 for Peter Mbah’s broader stakeholders’ engagement aimed at strengthening relationships with traditional institutions, community leaders and other critical stakeholders across the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
At the close of the meeting, Igwe Asadu and Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah proceeded together to the Okoli Nwa Nsukka Mega Carnival, an annual event organised by Nollywood actress Miss Rachel Okonkwo, popularly known as Nkoli Nwa Nsukka, as part of efforts to empower and support less-privileged members of the society.
The joint appearance further underscored the importance of collaboration among traditional institutions, community stakeholders, development advocates and grassroots organisations in advancing the interests of the people of Nsukka and Enugu State.
