The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS), under the leadership of its Executive Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Ekene Nnamani, has marked three years of what it described as consistent reforms aimed at strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue system and unlocking its vast revenue potentials.
Nnamani assumed leadership of the state’s revenue agency in 2023, following the commencement of the administration of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, and has since spearheaded reforms targeted at improving revenue collection, compliance, accountability and the efficiency of the state’s tax administration.
Marking his third anniversary in office on Sunday, August 23, 2026, Nnamani acknowledged the progress recorded over the period while stressing that Enugu State still has enormous untapped revenue opportunities.
“God is indeed great. It’s been three years of consistent reforms as Executive Chairman of Enugu State Internal Revenue Service,” Nnamani said in a statement issued on behalf of the management of the Service.
He noted that while significant progress had been achieved, the agency remained determined to go further, declaring that “revenue potentials for Enugu State remain huge” and that the Service would remain “unyielding till full potentials are harnessed.”
The ESIRS chairman attributed the progress recorded in the last three years to the support of Governor Mbah, the cooperation of Ndi Enugu, the commitment of the agency’s management and staff, as well as guidance from the Joint Tax Board.
Nnamani expressed particular appreciation to Governor Mbah for entrusting him with the responsibility of leading the state’s revenue administration and for what he described as the Governor’s consistent support and push for reforms.
He also commended residents of Enugu State for accepting the tax and revenue reforms introduced by the administration and demonstrating greater compliance with their tax obligations.
According to him, the cooperation of taxpayers remains critical to the sustainability of the state’s revenue system and the government’s ability to finance development programmes and provide services to citizens.
The ESIRS chairman further acknowledged the contribution of the agency’s management and staff, saying their belief in the reform agenda and continued support had been instrumental to the progress achieved.
He also thanked the Joint Tax Board for its guidance and technical support, while extending appreciation to members of the public, supporters and the agency’s social media community for their goodwill and messages marking the milestone.
The three-year milestone comes as the Mbah administration continues to place emphasis on strengthening the state’s internally generated revenue base as part of its broader economic transformation agenda.
Nnamani, however, made it clear that the anniversary was not a declaration of completion, but a reaffirmation of the work ahead.
He stressed that the state’s revenue potentials remained substantial and that the Service would continue to pursue reforms capable of making revenue administration more efficient, sustainable and impactful.
“We are indeed very grateful to you all. Accept our appreciation as we move to ensure that our reforms are sustainable and impactful in the lives of Ndi Enugu,” he said.
The ESIRS management therefore reaffirmed its commitment to consolidating the reforms of the past three years while pursuing new strategies to expand the state’s revenue base, improve compliance and ensure that increased revenue translates into tangible benefits for the people of Enugu State.
