....State Government, ITF Partner to Equip Artisans and Young People with Practical Skills for Better Opportunities
The Enugu State Government has opened applications for the SUPA-ITF Enugu Artisan Skills Accelerator, a free skills development programme designed to equip artisans, aspiring entrepreneurs and young people with practical skills needed to improve their livelihoods and access better economic opportunities.
The initiative, implemented by the Enugu State Government through the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency (Enugu SME Center) in partnership with the Industrial Training Fund (ITF), is targeted at people who already possess a skill and want to improve, those with some practical experience seeking to advance their capabilities, as well as individuals interested in learning a trade and building a career.
Under the programme, 700 beneficiaries will be selected for completely free training across five major sectors with strong employment and entrepreneurship potential.
The training areas include Building and Construction; Fashion, Garment and Leather; Automotive; Information and Communication Technology (ICT); and Hospitality.
The programme is designed to bridge skills gaps by helping participants upgrade existing competencies, acquire new practical knowledge and become better positioned for employment, self-employment and business opportunities.
For existing artisans, the initiative provides an opportunity to move beyond basic proficiency and acquire improved techniques that can enhance the quality of their work and competitiveness.
For beginners, it offers a pathway to acquire practical skills that can serve as the foundation for a sustainable career or enterprise.
The partnership between the Enugu MSME & Startup Agency and ITF underscores the growing emphasis on technical and vocational skills as important drivers of job creation, entrepreneurship and economic development.
The state government is encouraging interested applicants to take advantage of the opportunity and apply early, while ensuring that all information submitted during the application process is accurate.
Applications are currently open through the official Enugu SME Center portal at www.enugusme.en.gov.ng/supa-itf.
The initiative carries a simple message to prospective beneficiaries: have a skill? Improve it. Want to learn a skill? Start now.
As Enugu continues to expand its skills-development and enterprise support programmes, the SUPA-ITF Artisan Skills Accelerator is positioned as another intervention aimed at turning practical skills into sustainable economic opportunities.
