By 2030, Nigeria’s Energy Transition Could Create 340,000 Jobs as Enugu Positions Youths for Emerging Green Economy
Enugu State is taking another bold step toward preparing its young people for the jobs of the future with the launch of the Enugu Green Tech Training Accelerator (EGTTA), a practical skills programme designed to equip participants with hands-on expertise in some of the world’s fastest-growing emerging industries.
With millions of new jobs being created globally across solar energy, electric vehicles, automation and other green technologies, the programme seeks to position Enugu youths to participate meaningfully in the rapidly expanding green economy.
The global green technology market is projected to approach US$80 billion by 2030, while Nigeria has identified more than US$23 billion in energy-transition investment opportunities, with the potential to generate up to 340,000 jobs within the same period.
Against this backdrop, EGTTA offers an opportunity for aspiring entrepreneurs, job seekers and technology enthusiasts to acquire practical, industry-relevant skills within four months.
The programme provides training in four emerging technology areas: Solar Technology; Electric Vehicle (EV) Diagnostics; Robotics & IoT Electronics; and Computer Engineering.
One of the major attractions of the initiative is a 75 per cent subsidy on training fees, significantly reducing the financial barrier for participants seeking to acquire valuable technical skills.
According to the programme organisers, participants will receive hands-on training designed to prepare them for employment, freelancing opportunities and entrepreneurship, enabling them not only to seek jobs but also to create businesses and services around emerging technologies.
The Enugu MSME & Startup Agency is implementing the initiative in partnership with Greenage Talent Hub and Capitis Global Ventures Limited.
The programme is part of the broader drive to build a technology-skilled workforce capable of responding to changing global economic realities and positioning Enugu youths for opportunities beyond traditional employment sectors.
With the global transition towards cleaner energy, electric mobility, automation and smart technologies gathering pace, EGTTA is designed to ensure that young people in Enugu are not left behind.
