The Wife of the Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Nkechinyere Iheoma Mbah, has announced the 2026 Enugu Women’s August Meeting, themed “The Resilient Woman,” with wives of Local Government Area Chairmen across the state expected to play a prominent role in the celebration.
The annual gathering, which has become a major platform for women across Enugu State to connect, celebrate their heritage and strengthen community bonds, will hold on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Okpara Square, Independence Layout, Enugu, from 10:00 a.m.
Mrs. Mbah described the August Meeting as more than an annual social gathering, stressing that it represents a cherished tradition through which Enugu women celebrate their culture, achievements, resilience and contributions to the development of their families and communities.
This year’s theme, “The Resilient Woman,” is expected to highlight the courage, determination and strength of women in overcoming challenges, supporting families, promoting enterprise and contributing meaningfully to the growth of Enugu State.
A major feature of the 2026 celebration is the participation of the wives of Local Government Area Chairmen from across the state, who are expected to join the First Lady in welcoming and mobilising women from their respective communities for the landmark gathering.
Leading the group is Hon. Mrs. Rita Edeh, Wife of the Chairman of Nkanu East Local Government Area, who also serves as ALGON Chairperson, Enugu State and South-East, providing a coordinating leadership role among the wives of Local Government Chairmen across the region.
Mrs. Edeh is expected to lead the wives of the Local Government Chairmen in supporting the August Meeting and mobilising women from the 17 Local Government Areas to participate actively in the celebration.
The participation of the Local Government Chairmen’s wives is expected to add a strong grassroots dimension to the event, bringing together women from communities across the state in a celebration of unity, culture and resilience.
The 2026 August Meeting will feature cultural displays, inspiring conversations, exhibitions, competitions, entertainment and other activities celebrating the talents, creativity, enterprise and achievements of Enugu women.
Mrs. Mbah has expressed optimism that the gathering will provide women with an opportunity to connect, exchange ideas, celebrate their accomplishments and inspire one another, while also deepening the bonds of unity among communities across Enugu State.
With the wives of the Local Government Chairmen joining the celebration under the coordinating leadership of Mrs. Rita Edeh, the 2026 edition is expected to bring the message of “The Resilient Woman” directly to the grassroots, reinforcing the important role women play in strengthening families, communities and the state.
The event is expected to attract women from all 17 Local Government Areas of Enugu State for a colourful celebration of womanhood, culture, unity, resilience and the enduring strength of Ndi Enugu.
